Conversion Shield... new idea

#1 Post by Delmuir »

The new Archmage now suffers from significantly diminished defense, having lost access to the the classic disruption shield and the Celestial/light category. Thus, I present the conversion shield:

Conversion Shield
Active skill
3-5 turns

This shield converts 50% of incoming damage into the damage type of your highest resistance. The difference between the damage received and what would have been received is converted to energy to restore or buff (exceed normal cap) any active damage shields.

In other words, if you receive 200 fire damage at 25% (50 damage reduced) and convert it to arcane at 60% (120 reduced) then that's a 70 damage difference. Thus, half of that, 35 damage is added to whatever active damage shields you have after the damage has been received.

This would also mean that should you manage 100% resistance (assuming no resistance penetration and/or however the math really works) and have this skill active then it'd essentially negate incoming damage for a few turns, unless it were enough to crack through all of your shields before it could complete the conversion.

This would work really well with the Aether Permeation prodigy. More so, it'd work nicely with the new Disruption shield and, of course, the Aegis category.

Additionally, I think this skill could have an added bonus of +1% per active talent level to all resistance caps. Not a huge bonus but just enough to tempt that prodigy but this is hardly a necessity.

I have no idea where to stick this skill though... maybe replace metaflow.
