[1.6] Writhing One got Worm pet at lvl 9 w/o spending points

When I loaded up the game this morning I saw that I hadn't spent points from leveling last night. Mistakenly thought I had a free category point, so I went and clicked on the Friend of the Worm category and then the Worm that Walks talent. Realized I wasn't able to because I was only lvl 9, finished distributing the points, left the screen, and somehow I have a pet Worm that Walks anyway. No actual points in the talent, so I don't have the spell to resummon it. It persists across zone changes, I can level it, give it gear, etc. Very strange.

Edit:

Played it out a bit more. Died before the pet, rezzed at the eidolon and went back in. Apparently that means it rezzed inside the eidolon zone and was stuck there. Levelled to 10 outside and got the skill, and couldn't resummon it to me. I had to die again to get it back. Not sure if that is a bug or not (until 1.6 only played Writhing One on Roguelike so this wasn't a possible issue) but it appears it was entirely functional.

Confirmed that this works on a brand new Writhing One at lvl 2. Just clicked on the category and the talent and the worm is there, fully usable. Can level it, move stuff to it, etc. Makes the Maggot much easier, let me tell you!

I can't reproduce that.
Is that right:
- make new writhing one char
- open levleup
- deploy friend of the worm (withou a talent category point)
- click on the greyed out first talent?

Am I missing something? Or do you have addons interfering ?

it works on character creation too,

what I did - tried with cornac (yes I spent the cat point on something first) and shalore:
all non-official addons disabled.

with one class point available
click on friend of the worm - it will complain that no cat points are left
click on worm that walks - it will complain that prerequisits are not met and will not assign the class point
end character creation - the writhing one now starts with a worm pet

or: if you did not clicked the above items during character creation, just do so in the level up screen and the pet appears on level change (in my case entering the maggot).

edit: the on character creation thing is iffy - on two more tries it worked once - but both characters got their pet on level change.

I don't use any addons other than the DLC and the official ones that come installed (like, Possessor).

I just replicated it on another couple new Writhing Ones. Ogre and halfling. Will work on the character creation screen. Some limits. If all you do is click on Friend of the Worm and Worm that Walks and immediately close the talent choice screen without assigning any other points, it will not give you the summon. Replicated that several times. What does cause it is assigning any points to any other talents or attributes in the same session you fail to make the choices.

What will summon the worm:
1. Opening the talent screen with points available to distribute but without free category points (including on character creation)
2. Clicking on Friend of the Worm
3. Clicking on Worm that Walks
4. Distributing any number of points either in attributes or talents. This can be done before or after the fail clicks.
5. Accepting the choices and closing the talent screen.

The WtW pops up every time. I've done it with a ghoul as well, so it's not dependent on...whatever the demented city is called. The key steps appear to be 4 and 5. If you don't assign any other points, or assign then unassign points it won't summon the worm. If you don't get it into a state where it needs to ask you to accept the choices, it won't summon the worm.
