Exiting game freezes my pc.

#1 Post by tealquest »

Basically what title says. The game works fine, I also played it like couple of years ago on this exact pc, this exact system (win 7 x64), and everything was totally ok. But now, when I press quit, my pc just freezes, can't even alt-f4, cant get to task manager, keyboard is unresponsive....

Is it something on my side? or recent patches changed something in game to maybe cause this to happen?

Any suggestions maybe? I can not play the game, when I have to use hardware reset every time I quit.

Check what the te4_log.txt and te4_log_web.txt files say after you have had to do this.
Enable Flush Logging with the launcher first though.

You mean this:

Cleaning up!
Terminating!
Webcore shutdown complete
SDL shutdown complete
OpenAL shutdown complete
Thanks for having fun!

Apparently in windowed mode I can quit fine. Its fullscreen mode that breaks it up for me. When I quit from fullscreen it just freezes at black screen and I can't do anything...

EDIT: I can alt-tab while in full screen, but even switching from fullscreen to windowed still freezes my pc.

Okay, sounds like your graphic drivers are misbehaving then.
Give them a slap, I mean, update.

Nope. Thats not it. I got latest drivers. Still tried autoupdate (but it said my drivers need no update), then downloaded and installed drivers manually, but its the same version. So the game still freezes on exit from fullscreen.

And moreover, as I mentioned in op: I played the game couple of years ago on this exact pc and had no problems with it. Maybe its new drivers actually breaking it then, or something in game got updated that didn't account for my pc specifics?

New drivers can be an issue. (Its usually a good idea not to update drivers until you need to.) You should be able to try old drivers.

There have been a few changes in the way Windows handles things, but that it to do with the other things that won't cause your computer to crash on graphics mode changes.

It is also possible that your hardware is damaged, but it seems extremely unlikely that this is the only thing that hits the fault in the hardware.
