Aeryn killed me

#1 Post by zeke »

warning --- somewhat spoilery

On my first character ever to reach the Far East (Skeleton Bulwark), when I got to the Gates of Morning, Aeryn generated hostile. She killed the character easily (though FAIK I would have done better if I hadn't mainly been shocked by the whole thing). And there was no dialog to tell me what she was angry about, either.

For that matter, the one Sunwall patrol I saw on my way from Unremarkable Cave to Gates of Morning was also hostile, though at the time I thought that might just be b/c I hadn't talked to Aeryn yet.

Is this what's supposed to happen? If so, what was I supposed to do about it?

You weren't wearing your Cloak of Deception. You have to wear that as an undead or else everyone attacks you. If you had the Fortress make it permanent, still keep the cloak, as the effect drops sometimes (I think mostly when you die and respawn). Just re-equip the cloak and then take it off again and it'll be "permanently" applied once more.
Let slip the toast of war.

Thanks for the answer. Yes, I had it but wasn't wearing it because the fortress had, indeed, made it permanent. I had died and respawned using the last racial, though, so I guess that was it; it would have been nice of the game to alert me (even just "Everyone hates you b/c they can see you're undead" when I entered GoM would probably have been enough to tip me off).

Well, it gives you a little icon like a sustain, I believe. You just have to pay attention to that, the cloak being removed is a bug so it makes sense they wouldn't have a warning about it. More obviously, if you walk into a town and everybody starts beating on your face, If you can get out of town and re-equip your cloak before they kill you, they shouldn't remain aggro'd when you come back.
Let slip the toast of war.

Certainly, that would have been a good reminder, if I had known about the phenomenon. Never having been to GoM before, though, I didn't know what was supposed to happen; for all I knew Aeryn was supposed to beat me to the edge of death before hearing I was to be allowed in, or maybe I'd made her hostile by somehow accidentally hitting her.

Ah yes, fun with respawning as undead.

One time I died to the fight in front of the exploratory Farportal. When I respawned it was without the cloak, so suddenly my cat would attack me but only with the cloak on (as most cats do).
