Ego Stripper or Non-Ego equipment maker

#1 Post by Andy00 »

There's a few item upgrades that require a non-ego piece of equipment.

It is surprisingly hard to find a ring, amulet or other equipment that _isn't_ enchanted.

I could see Ziguranth offering to "purify" magic weapons (non-Artifact); or maybe a Tinker offering to make non-ego equipment with the materials that the APE creates.

I heartily approve this idea. I was just talking in in-game chat today about how deceptively difficult it is to find a basic white item.

I think, thematically, it would fit to have a vendor at Angolwen that can strip egos and one at Zigur that can strip egos specifically from arcane-powered items. That way you have access to it whether or not you're antimagic, and it makes sense that Angolwen would have the magic to reduce anything to its basic form and Zigur would have the power to strip filthy Arcane power sources.

This also means that we'll actually have a chance to find and use T5 whites. As it stands, I don't think I've ever seen a white item outside of T1 or T2, meaning items that make use of them (Crystal Focus, cough cough) might actually be useful post-Daikara, which they currently... well, aren't.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I'm not sure what anyone would use an ego stripper for OTHER than Crystal Focus and related items. Maybe make it so that you can "preserve" an ego from an item and transplant it to another item.... for money, of course. Lots of money. The item that you stripped gets returned to you as a white rarity of the appropriate type and tier, and you get a potion (or something similar, it doesn't really matter) that you can use on another item to affix that ego to it. Only one ego can be stripped from an item (if it has multiple), all the others are lost, and only one ego can be affixed to another item, but the affix stacks with previous existing egos on that item.

Seems like a fun new way to get overpowered while also adding in some bits and pieces that make the rest of your life better.
Let slip the toast of war.
