Does auto-update work for anybody?

Does auto-update work for anybody?
I've been using the 64-bit Linux version, non-Steam, since approximately forever, and my launcher has never successfully auto-updated the engine, the ToME module, or any addons, official or third-party. Auto-update is on in the options, I'm connected to the Internet and my te4 account, the user account I run the game on has full permissions for all the game's directories and files, and I get the usual message about 'Retrieving addons to update/download from te4.org" every time I close the Addons menu...but nothing ever actually updates.
From asking around in chat and consulting these forums, I also haven't found any other people for whom the game automatically updates. So my question, for anyone who reads this topic is: are you, or do you know, anyone who has had a successful auto-update of anything?

The in game auto updater only updates addons, not the engine.
You use the Patch button in the launcher to update the engine and standard module.

I think that I recall launching it on my PC using Steam and the addons would autoupdate.
I never play it that way anymore though: I'm on my Macbook now and T-Engine never updates anything automatically, as you say.
Oh, and the OSX version has no launcher. I have to download the whole damn thing (including music) every version.

Yep, I can confirm that I did not see "Linux version" in the OP...

I have auto-update addons on Windows 10 (ToME 1.5.5 music version), and I don't seem to get automatic addon updates. I was thinking that this was maybe so that games in progress didn't have their addons upgraded without it being consciously done, but I'm not sure why otherwise, since it does say that auto-update addons option is on.

Can confirm, I've got the Windows non-Steam version installed on two different computers, both of which have auto-update addons activated, neither of which auto-updates addons.

auto update only works for addons installed through the steam workshop
and this is intended AFAIK

Well... that's lame. Any idea why it's intended that way? Having an auto-update feature that only auto-updates on certain versions of your game, but not informing anyone of that fact, seems a bit odd.Micbran wrote:and this is intended AFAIK

This is not true.
The non-steam windows version does having a working addon updater, it is used to patch DLC as well.
Or possibly did have a working addon updater. It gives me the log message that it is checking and doesn't give an error.

It also gives me the log message that it's checking, and never throws an error, but also never updates anything.
