Bone Shield Tweak

#1 Post by nsrr »

Get it here: https://te4.org/games/addons/tome/boneshield_tweak or on Steam.

This addon modifies Bone Shield to add a low damage threshold which will prevent charges from being expended on minor damage.

Currently the value scales from around 20 to 45 based on talent level. I may change this to be a percentage of max life (say, 5% or so), if anyone thinks that would work better. My only concern is that it might be too strong on NPCs if it's based on max life instead of just being a fixed value. Opinions on this are welcome, of course.

Wow, nice!

Can i put request? It would be nice to have an adjustable threshhold, like preferable paradox rate or something similar.

On Insane, max life hits 20,000-30,000, so 5% would be close to invulnerable. On Madness, times that by ten!

Also, they get huge numbers of bones and they recreate rapidly :-(.

So I reckon 20-45 is fine.

I should say, I suggested this change because so many talents reduce damage by a percentage or cap, leaving little bits of damage to flow through to bone shield. What makes a BIG difference is therefore to use shields (damage, time, displacement), because these soak up these little bits of damage and then the bone shield stays up. I've tested this extensively and it is definitely the best way to manage the shields. What you want is damage mitigation, a long lasting shield, and then bone shields (if you are running and adventurer that is :-) ).
MADNESS rocks

Ah, yes, I should have mentioned that the idea came from jenx. My bad. I've been working through a bad cold, so my brain is a bit fuzzy. It did give me time to code this, though, so I guess it's not all bad

I kind of thought that might be the case as far as scaling to health was concerned, but I rarely play above nightmare, myself. Seems best to stick with a set value.

Hmm... it would be possible, I suppose. I'm not sure how to do that, though. If it's something a lot of people want, I could look into it. I'm certainly open to feedback from folks who use this and feel the threshold is too high or too low, though.

ghostbuster suggested this scaling over in a related thread in the Ideas forum:
For the threshold, I would suggest something like 5 + NPC_level/2
Makes 10 at lvl 10
30 at level 50
80 at level 150
That seems like a good way to make it automatically scale and yields numbers that seem reasonable to me. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
