Re: Odyssey of The Summoner: Spoiler and Discussion

Is the Drakeling revival effect on corrupt drakelings really worth the loss of the Anti-Death resist dying ability? Keeping the drakeling alive (I don't want my drakeling buddies dead :( (as a side note, do they still get the plot events at High Peak if your starting Drakelings are corrupt?)) and keeping skills are two fantastic effects, but they also die dramatically easier. Does anyone else have an opinion on this, since I am not very good?

As a side note: Does the Drakeling Crown prodigy effect exploration mode characters? I have something of a clue of what it does (I read the conversations themed around it in the files), and I don't permadie in exploration mode, so I don't know if it does something relevant in explore mode.

@Kamani
RE: Darklings
I'm definitely reviewing the Anti-Death traits of Darklings. I'm hoping I can have them preserve A LOT more than they currently do (it's only really supposed to be a level reset)-- And to also smarten up their AI when it comes to using their talents (at current, they're too afraid to use them because they think they're going to hurt you or allies).

... But, yes: Darklings are supposed to die ABSURDLY easily (unless you're taking good care of them). The return is that they are A LOT stronger than a regular Drakeling...-- But that doesn't feel like the case right now.

RE: Legacy in Exploration Mode
The update is including a way to "retire" in the Shertul Fortress (much like how Necromancer can do so to become a Lich right away without dying). This will allow Fire Drakes to trigger the prodigy even when they're playing in Exploration mode.

... Also: "Legacy" is VERY broken right now. The update is going to (hopefully) fix that too. Seems literally turning into ANOTHER character was a bit of a tall order-- Story, plot, and logic wise. :lol:

Okay. The Darklings thing makes sense. Also, do you mean that the main game or you are adding the ability to retire at the Sher'Tul fortress? (It might be obvious, but I can't really tell. Sorry) And how does necromancer retire to become lich (I have only played undead necromancers, who tragically get no lichform)?
But I do really love how Legacy seems like it should work (based on my reading about it, since I haven't been able to use it).

@Kamani
Basically, you touch the orb in the center of the Shertul Fortress and you'll get an option along the lines of "Kill me now-- I want to transform". Fire Drakes with "Legacy" will get something similar, and I refer to it as "Retiring" (because, unlike "Lichform", it's not like you're "killing" yourself, technically).

Some random thoughts on the player character:
- For fire drake, I wonder if the reflections drakelings have something to do with the character's past life. Fire drake's prodigy
relates to crowns and kingship, but I am not sure what else it could mean. It was specifically mentioned that the character didn't
have a family, so... I don't know. I know that the reflections drakelings are referenced as king, steed, and adviser in one of the
notes in the addon, but I don't know why.
- Ritch is an assassin for hire or similar. Their prodigy makes it pretty clear. That, and the love of killing and the whole color red
thing.
- Hydra... I don't really know. Mad hatter references, multiple heads with, apparently, multiple personalities. I don't know here. Split
personality or something?

As a side note: It is slightly confusing how a drakeling at Heart of the Gloom will say "NAME, do not fight this alone-- I am with you!", but accepting their help makes them like you less. It feels kind of backwards when all my drakelings are already high dependency (I try to keep my drakelings as loving drakelings)

@Kamani
Don't think too hard about it. I actually purposely "misnamed" the drakelings' plot names because I knew someone might read into the code. :lol:

But yeah, it will all be more than clear in the update, since each class's reflections quest will be as fleshed out as Fire Drake's is (and that one is only half-complete at current!)

If you want some "meaty" clues though, here's a few fun ones:

- Hydra's "Breath Hydra" talents have lore that refer to some sort of researcher who is researching an alternative form of fuel for golems. Also, as you said: This person seems to be battling with inner demons...

- Fire Drake's character refers to understanding the "potential" within warriors simply at a glance at the very beginning when they first summon Drakelings. Also, in "Dragon Army", the lore seems to imply they are already accustomed to the battlefield, possessing army-like battle knowledge-- especially when concerning soldiers and the like...

- As for Ritch-- You're spot on: Your character seems unusually talented in the art of killing, as well as crafting devices of slaughter. To confirm it all-- Its hidden uber text refers to "a supplier" and such. This is definitely someone who dabbles in "underhanded" activities...

I've left bread crumbs all over the place-- It's all just a matter of connecting the dots...

Then fire drake is probably a general. I had considered that, but the prodigy and the drakelings plot names (I was kind of wondering if they were named based on an old backstory idea that was changed. This explains that). I'll take a look at hydra and attempt to figure that one out tomorrow.

Edit: So Hydra was probably an alchemist or a wilder working with alternative golem fuel (non-magic golems). (I am currently not looking at the gaze set of lores. I am not sure if that is a relevant one). Their lores also talk about hydras as both horrible abominations and fascinating cool exciting things (As a side note here: would nitrates and vitriol generate electricity? If no, that lore might not make sense. I know nitrates can be found in fertilizer, but not much else about them), showing kind of contrary opinions (so more of a inner demons/multiple personalities thing). This one is tough to figure out, but the reflections, once they are done, should clear this up.

Also, thank you for putting notes in the code. It makes it fun to read.

Another note: Playing Therian, I noted the venom ice talents. Are these available to anyone except Therian (Actually, I think I might have figured this one out.)? Also, will blighted ever really be worth it if there is only one blighted tree per Avatar? Investing many points into magic for one tree might be bad.

I wonder what Rak'Shor's Cunning might do to a Avatar character. I think I will skip that. Especially with legacy.

Legacy testing has finally allowed me to use conflagration and other drakeling only talents. Yay! It also seems to be broken for me in developer mode (Inventory issues and I didn't seem to be able to use the grow up thing with the summoner. I HAD been using developer mode, so I may have broken something that way that wouldn't normally be an issue).

I note that the King, Horse, and Adviser notes were relevant. Who knew? Loving the new drakeling dialogue. Not sure why the blue options are blue though.

Edit: Were any consume effects removed?
Editedit: Some were changed, I see. Serpent's Glare is the one I have seen that has changed.
EditAgain: Wait, most/all artifacts seem to be showing the looks suspicious text. Lamps, bows, a necklace, the rod of recall, the transmog chest... Are they actually special effects, or is something up here.

I am supposed to be on the most recent version of ToME, right? Oh, I forgot to remove official addons. Hope that doesn't cause issues.

Heheheh... I had to throw you off the scent somehow. :D

RE: Consumes
Nope. If anything, more were added.

RE: Serpent's Glare
That's a new one on top of its old effect.

RE: Suspicious Artifacts
To make it a little less obvious which items are "Consumables", ALL artifacts can now be inspected. :wink:

Okay. Time to horde EVERY artifact.

Edit: Also, are darklings supposed to heal from dark fire? Someone is talking about how they weren't.

Edit: My primary and secondary scale heritages swapped a while after I took the multihued scales prodigy for no apparent reason. Now my drakes aren't healing from fire damage. Not good.
Edit: Actually, they still heal from fire. But my breath is physical now, and they DON"T heal from that. This character's run just got ended unless this gets fixed sadly.

@Kamani

RE: Dark Healing
Darklings DO NOT heal from Darkness. Instead, they get "Darkness Cloak" which allows them to RESIST darkness based on how much fire immunity they have. There is honestly no "safe" way to use Shadowflames talents on them-- Which is sort of the "theme" behind the talent tree: A power so great, the dragons that once wielded it ended up destroying themselves with it.

I wonder if I can manage to keep going. I had my drakelings all survive and I was level 33 when my heritages swapped, and I don't know if an update would fix an already broken character.

Edit: FIXED! I modified my save file to change the heritages. Still have to do drakelings though.
EditEdit: Fixed drakelings too. Glad that my character's quest has not ended yet. BTW, it happened at the same time I put some more points into scales after defeating Pale Drake.\
AnotherEdit: Someone else put 5 in all points into scales with the prodigy while debugging, and it didn't break.

YetAnotherEdit: Fists of the Desert Scorpion effect is neat.

EditSomeMore: Tree of Life effect is broken. Just gives a LUA error. I only have your quality of life mods and the official addons.

RE: Heritages swapped
Still not entirely sure what caused your heritages to swap. The only way that could happen is if, somehow, ALL of your talents were unlearned then relearned.

RE: Scorpion Hands
That's actually one of several. :wink:

RE: Tree of Life doesn't work
Hah! I've seen WORSE Lua Errors than this. Don't underestimate me!

... WHOOPS! I forgot this gives you a talent from a tree I haven't implemented yet! :lol:
