They don't really have any potential to drown though. Especially since the only place with water and escorts simultaneously is Trollmire iirc.

On reflection, it was more of an annoyance than anything real. It happened in Sher'tul forest outside of a large castle.

I lost the escort because I tried to dig a new path, and it would not wait for me to finish. It turned out the portal was in the moat.

Basically I always hate losing escorts.

I'd also be happy with escorts that don't path directly through dangerous ground effects. I lost one today because an enemy put down a freezing fog as it died. There was no more enemy to avoid, so the escort ran straight to me, head first into the fog, and died two turns later.
