Game won't start in steam/game don't recognize steam account

Noticing that 1.5 is out, I decided to get back into the game (after not having played since Embers of Rage), but have some issues starting it.

When trying to start it via Steam, it hangs on "Preparing to Launch"
When starting it manually (via the .exe) its unable to connect to my steam account and hence all my old unlocks are gone ... sure i could probably fetch the "unlock everything" addon, but it should work nonetheless.

Only reason I can think of (and its not a very good one) is that it somehow doesn't play nice with Windows10

I'm on Windows 10 and see no problem. You should rather check your steam installation I suppose.

tried purging and reinstalling before i came here ... and as I noted, doubted that was the reason, but its the only one I could guess at

just tried on my old laptop, and it works perfectly fine there ... but its still a problem on my main computer

Hard-copied the t-engine folder from one computer to another, and now the game at least connect to my user when I manually start it. But it's still unable to start via Steam

Disregard ... by poking around I discovered that it was a error in steam that was solved by ctrl-shift-esc and shutting down all steam related instances and restarting it
