You all know what I am speaking of. No not the sawbutcher rares or the level 500 horrors. What I am speaking of is the Rat Lich. Alone among it's kind to achieve not only intelligence, but an undead form of immense power. While others use noisy saws or petty blades the Rat Lich uses it's pure magical powers. And a massive horde of various undead rats. Rats can become vampires, and this has startling revelations. Either all races can become bloodsucking weirdos or rats share some strange qualities with the bipedal races of Eyal (While random mobs can be vampires there are no unique ones so it's unclear if that's just a game play mechanic or not).
The Master is a charismatic tyrant bent on world domination, the orcs hate everyone but themselves (exceptions to this apply) and wish to cleanse the other races from Eyal, the Mal'rokka are very butthurt about their planet blowing up and want to take Eyal for their own, but the Rat Lich has no apparent goal. It's intentions and origin are shrouded in mystery. The questions of "How did a rat become a lich?" and "why the hell are there so many damn rats down here?" go unanswered. Unlike the rest of the potential slaughter victims of Eyal the Rat Lich alone has no explanation. Is it the only rat to become intelligent and unlock magical powers? Is the Rat Lich the result of some weird experiment? I do not believe so.
Throughout Eyal there's quite a lot of individuals or groups that possess a lot of information, far more than they should. From the weird psi ghosts to the two elves that are trying to destroy the world. Many have knowledge that's quite simply really hard to come by. Lian knew the location of a dead god but how she did is never explained or remarked upon. What if there was something in the shadows manipulating Eyal? You know what hangs out in the shadows? That's right, clean disease and clean lice ridden rats. I believe the Rat Lich is simply one of an entire species of hyper intelligent rats that possess powers most mortal beings couldn't even imagine. Perhaps they covet the power the Sher'tul had, or they wish to use Eyal and it's inhabitants for unknown reasons, OR they are the fragmented remains of the Sher'tul. That last one is really stretching it but nontheless; the Hirug (hyper intelligent rats up to no good) are plotting something and while we don't know what it is, we know it won't be good for Eyal.
Plus they probably have a bunch of glorious nasty diseases
