Is it possible to make an addon without invalid addon hash?

Is it possible to make an addon without invalid addon hash?

#1 Post by squareinc »

Hi all,

I wanted to know if I can make an offline addon that just has some tweaks I would prefer and still use my character online. Right now, if I make it and put it in the folder, it works but I can't use my online profile due to invalid addon hash. I know I can upload an addon and it'll work, but right now the addon isn't anything much, just some stat tweaks that I want to try out, not something that is meant for upload. Is it possible to get rid of the hash issue without uploading? Also, how do I update an addon without getting this same issue. I made some changes to an existing addon and put everything back in the original teaa file and got the error. Any help would be greatly appreciated :).

As far as I know, uploading the add on is the only solution. For the one you made yourself, a simple upload would do. For an add on made by someone else you would have to change the name (and make the appropriate changes to the directory name) before uploading. The invalid hash basically means you're playing with an unregistered add on or one whose files do not match the add on as it was when registered. Otherwise, one could take an add on that made a simple cosmetic tweak, unpack it, change it to do literally anything they wanted, repack it, and play with only said simple add on showing on their profile.

Yeah, someone could then, say, pretend they beat madness without any mods that make things a lot easier.

Okay that makes sense. What do I do about official addons though? For example, if I change the text in the item vault addon that comes with the game? I know that the item vault is for those who donate so it wouldn't be right to upload that file to register the tweak I made. Is there anyway I can change an addon by making a new addon? Or what should I do?

You should not be changing those addons.
