A Bee wrecked me
I was in a level, either Old Forest or Unknown TUnnels. The one with lots of treants and foxes and bears. Anyway, I came upon a bee shaped boss or heroic enemy and he just wrecked me. I'm about a level 13 alchemist. My golem went down a couple of turns after his shield went down. I put my shield up after he died, but I only made it 3 turns before he dropped my shield and killed me. Anyone know who this guy is and how to beat him? He had a name, but it's escaping me. I was hoping to look it up or get some help on it here. I tried to run but he seems to move twice as fast as I do and was probably a few levels above me as well.
Thanks,
Thanks,

Re: A Bee wrecked me
Could have been a random Rare monster, or a Unique one. The game takes a monster type and in addition to it's existing attributes and skills and defenses, adds a class to it. You could run into a named Alchemist Bee with it's own golem, for example, or one of the many other classes. Doombringer and Reaver are particularly deadly. In the midst of the battle (or as soon as you see them on screen) right click on them and select Inspect. Check out their talents, their immunities, their resistances. So you know what you're up against.
At that stage of the game I'd reccomend having a teleport Rune so you can get out of a bad situation instantly. Also good are movement infusions and phase door runes.
In the tool slot have a Torque that reduces physical damage and use it when the enemy engages you. Check the towns shops for those. You'll find better along the way as random drops but you never know when. Armor and other equipment that boosts life, life regeneration, and healing mod should always be considered.

Re: A Bee wrecked me
I'll try to sneak up on it and see what I can see. I think it had a name though. This is my first play though so I'm not really sure I understand a lot of things. I know that I have nearly no "good" armor because of my class. I have very minimal protections and saves too. I'll try to post my important stats and equipment when I get home from work to see if anyone has some suggestions. More than suggestions though would be WHY to make a change. That way I understand. You can tell me get an X, but why to get it would be more important to know.

Re: A Bee wrecked me
when you restart, go easy difficulty.
as for the current one, you can't sneak on anyone, without either "stealth", "track/arcane eye", or ability to move twice, without taking any time.
and yes, rares and randbosses do have names if i remember. Although, there s no 'unique' bee.
light red name, was rare
yellow name, is a fixed boss.
orange was a randboss.
uniques, don't remember the colour, are a little weaker than fixed bosses, but still NOT to be underestimated.

Re: A Bee wrecked me
Judging from the sustained talents, the bee was generated as a Wyrmic. Wyrmics are quite powerful offensively, and combined with a bee's default increased movespeed, a monster like that can be pretty deadly, especially for an Alchemist with little defenses. IMHO, in this case it was even too late to try to escape (you had no reliable means of escape anyway) - you could have only hoped to outdamage the bee and kill it first. Pretty unlucky for you.
Lesson learned: If you spot a Rare or Unique monster like this one (if you use the graphic version, you can notice them easily by the borders of their tiles), always, always use the Inspect Creature to know what you are up against. If you are playing online, link the creature in the in-game chat - people are friendly there and willing to offer advice.
But note that the advice may be "get the f out of there". You don't need to kill everything in this game.

Re: A Bee wrecked me
Zicher,
This is my first time playing, so I don't really know what I'm doing yet. I still have 2 "lives" left as I was playing on adventure mode. I did tell the death guy to get me out of there so I haven't gone back, but might if there was something I could acquire at the store or whatnot to return to kill it. I have 2 levels worth of stat points to distribute so that's 6 attribute points, 2 generics and 4 talent points. Not sure if spending those or buying an awesome x of as*kicking in the shop would help me defeat it.
Thoughts?

Re: A Bee wrecked me
Spend the points, they do you no good just sitting there.
You can either try a different area first, go around the bee or just try killing the bee again.

Re: A Bee wrecked me
Look at the higher tier skills you want to get and invest the stat points in those. For an Alchemist I'd recommend prioritizing Magic first, then Willpower to increase your mana, then Strength to get enough to wear items. For generics get the Staff skill that shoots a projectile, that's your offensive move in between while bombs are on cooldown. Really cheap, mana efficient way to finish off weakened enemies too.
You should be able to burn this guy down with your golem and your reflection shield, spamming bombs. But as others have said, you don't have to and there are lots of tier 1 zones you can explore for more items and xp, then come back there stronger.
Look up the map tier list to see which ones are tier 1 - the easiest, and do all of those first. The equiment upgrades will help you survive better, and the gold can help you go shopping at all the stores in towns.

Re: A Bee wrecked me
Am I really going to need more mana for this character? I use bombs every 3 turns. I use the staff attack the other 2 if i'm not moving. I don't think i've seen a half full mana bar.

PS, I did finally beat this sucker.

Re: A Bee wrecked me
Higher tier spells generally have larger sustain/costs. I believe body of fire in the alchemist fire tree had a pretty hefty sustain cost as well as a drain. Also, it's nice to have some mana left after you get mana clashed so that all of your sustains don't get turned off.

Re: A Bee wrecked me
The problem with the bees is that they have %200 global speed, which means they use 2 talents every turn. However their talents still deal full damage so they deal twice the damage of other rares. This makes bee rares and randbosses one of the most dangerous enemies in the game. The best way to deal with them is bursting them down quickly since they have relatively low HP.

Re: A Bee wrecked me
I don't believe in alchemists needing that much mana. Get Cunning instead for crits. You can also get gems that give you back mana when you bomb stuff with anyway. Also, more mana = taking more damage when mana clashed :p
When your alchemist in normal throws bombs that crit for 2k damage, you don't really need to worry about your mana reserve deleting.
