Background history

#1 Post by inect »

Excuse me, gentlemen's, but no matter how much I try to find the background history of Tome4, I can't find that. I'm looking for the ancient history of the world, the history of the spellblaze that the NPCs are talking about all the time...

the more you play the more lore you discover.

that said, there are still gaps - perhaps some are deliberate?

spelblaze is most likely to be found in shaloren town, or in anglowen, i believe.

what i think happened, is that orks pushed the residents of maj'eyal too far, and they were forced to tap into the energiest of the shertul farportal.
tiny mistake, and it goes critical on them. it goes so badly, that chronomancy became possible. literally pretty sure someone says that you can't go back to before that event.

lore #175 puts some perspective in the time frame. its a letter written 2646 years after the event.

As the others have said, much of the history of Eyal is detailed in the lore pieces. If you are interested in the history of the spellblaze, I would recommend reading the Chronicles of the Spellblaze which can be found in Elvala. It's a contemporary account of the spellblaze and the events surrounding it. There are also several other relevant lore pieces scattered throughout the game.

Do note that ToME lore may not always be 100% truth - they are historical sources frequently affected by racial and cultural bias and should be treated as such.

If you want to 'cheat', there's a sheet in the ToME repository here that offers an overview of the setting, with a timeline and all. It is one giant spoiler, so beware.

Understood, sirs, and thank you all for the tips. So, there is not a "Genesis" to tell a plot, all the history is inside the game, differently of the other games?

There is no single source document for the backstory/setting. It very complex so it can't really be done and would be spoilery anyway.

Various pieces of lore are spread throughout the game which give you a pretty good picture of what is going on in the game.

I can imagine, that someday addon about time travel and prevention of Spellblaze will be made (with all possible plot paradoxes  ).

The only thing we can do - to wish health to DG! Long life and great health! (Con 120). )

as far as lore go, you can only go back to the very point of spellblaze, you can't prevent it, unless you use something from outside the lore.
