Suggestion: Name Change for Physical Critical

Suggestion: Name Change for Physical Critical
I think physical critical chance should be changed to "weapon critical chance" to avoid confusion. A lot of new players and veterans are confused alike by the current version of it. Doombringer talents are spells yet they use physical crit? Earthen Missiles are physical damage type spells that use spell crit? When i find a greatsword that deals lightning damage it uses physical crit? Mindstars deal nature or mind damage yet they use physical crit? These are just a few examples i can think of right now.
Im not saying the current statement is false, it would just be infinitely clearer if it was changed to "Weapon Critical Chance" instead of "Physical Critical Chance".

Re: Suggestion: Name Change for Physical Critical
I like the consistency of physical, spell, mind for power, crit, and saves. Especially in the character sheet tabs. So I vote to keep as is.
But I think you raise an important point, that there is often lack of clarify about what crit value is used in various talents and other areas. So I'd support changes to improve this.

Re: Suggestion: Name Change for Physical Critical
are there talents, that (ignoring brawler) use physical crit but no weapons?
shattering shout, or whatever berserker uses, uses phys power. can it crit?
also, general rule is:
-if its a spell, it will spellcrit.
-if its a mindpower(psi, wildgift, curse), it will mindcrit.
-if it use weapon damage, then it is a physcrit.
-weapon use has priority over the other 2.
-what type of damage is done doesn't matter.
or so i believe.

Re: Suggestion: Name Change for Physical Critical
I think the tutorial just needs to be beefed up a bit... And explain more mechanics than just the very basics.
A little bit of a starters guide written by yours truly here.
Re: Suggestion: Name Change for Physical Critical
People would still be confused as to whether a spell talent that includes a weapon attack uses weapon crit or spell crit. So this won't make a difference.
It also adds potential confusion if a talent that is not a spell, mindpower or weapon attack uses a physical crit roll.

Re: Suggestion: Name Change for Physical Critical
We could have a quiz :
Does TK use mind or physical?
does dream hammer use mind or physical?
Do arcane blade spells on melee hit use spell or physical?
does gloom on melee hit use mind or physical?
Did it matter if weapon is a mindstar?
Does ziggurat follower mean no spell crits care used?
etc
I think there is lots of potential for lack of clarity. I actually code dive whenever I really want to know.

Names don't need changing.
Tooltips on the other hand could be more precise.

Re: Suggestion: Name Change for Physical Critical
A name change may not be needed if a better solution is found, but i was stacking spell crit on a doombringer even after 400 hours into the game. I cant imagine what new players misunderstand. So least some sort of better clarification is definitely needed.

Re: Suggestion: Name Change for Physical Critical
yes, upgrade the tutorial, to which no one pays attention to really.
at least i don't...
but if you can make judgements based on yourself then so can i.
therefore noone cares about tutorials.

-TK...what? But probably physical.jenx wrote:We could have a quiz :

-Physical.
-Spell, the procs are spells, it doesn't matter what the trigger is. They can also crit separately.
-Gloom on-hit doesn't crit, it's a status effect... Gloom itself is a mind effect and it states that it is, including mindpower.
-No? It's still a weapon.
-...Yes? You can't use spells/runes/arcane activables.
Things clearly state weapon damage, Dream hammer clearly states physical critical in its stats.
Tooltips aren't always the best and they can use clarifying but most of the time, as far as crits go, they're easy to figure out.
Cunning gives you all crit types anyways so most of the time it doesn't even matter...
And when in doubt, all you have to do is actually crit, the log will tell you what kind of crit it is, IE: "player's mind surges with critical power!"
I think it's an unnecessary change.

Re: Suggestion: Name Change for Physical Critical
my point is simply that it takes players a long time before they work all this out, and importantly, there is no simple way to do this in the game, but there should be. (TK = telekinetically wielded weapon).Sheila wrote:-TK...what? But probably physical.jenx wrote:We could have a quiz :

re mindstars, mastery is psiblades - so does it use phys or mind power for crits? (another example of lack of clarity

Re: Suggestion: Name Change for Physical Critical
All weapons use phys power and power has nothing to do with crit chance. If it's a weapon hit then you should assume it's phys crit chance!jenx wrote:my point is simply that it takes players a long time before they work all this out, and importantly, there is no simple way to do this in the game, but there should be. Tooltips might not always be the best way but they help most of the time in this case, and how is simply critting and looking at your log not a simple way?
And yes, TK weapon hits are physical criticals as well, "player's Beyond The Flesh performs a melee critical strike!" There, pretty easy.
