New Doomed class category

#1 Post by Zeyphor »

4/20/2016 EDIT: changed some of the wording and added clarification for the second, third, and fourth talents

first off, fix Unseen Force so that it actually gives a chance for extra blows at higher levels(iirc it doesn't)

second off, this thread used to have an idea for a fire damage-based category, but I scrapped it since i couldn't think of more than one talent for it

the entire premise of this category is to transform into something, like deeprock form does; except of course you don't turn into a deeprock elemental but you instead turn into something that looks just like a terror/nightmare horror and uses its tile

Cursed/Terror Form(x1.30)

Terror Form
Willpower 22/24/26/28/30
Level 10/11/12/13/14
Use Mode: activated
Cost: 40 hate
Range: melee/personal
Cooldown: 35
Usage Speed: Mind
Is: a mind power
Description: You make your hatred manifest and fuse with it, assuming the form of a terror for 10/13/15/18/21 turns, gaining one size category, granting +9/18/27/36/45% additional Gesture of Pain and melee damage and granting +20/34/43/50/56% darkness resistance penetration, 100% fear immunity darkness damage affinity and resistance, and +30% to your darkness resistance cap, and causing all weapon damage dealt to be converted to darkness damage. While in this form, your shadows each cost 0 hate to summon, and you can summon an additional shadow; if you have too many shadows at your side when this talent wears off one of your shadows will disperse back into the darkness.
At talent level 5, while in terror form Creeping Darkness, including that made by Dark Torrent and Dark Tendrils, spreads and lingers for an additional turn, Dark Vision lets you see a tile further through your darkness, your movement speed bonus through your darkness is multiplied by 1.5, Dark Torrent has an additional 15% chance for its secondary effect, Dark Tendrils travels and creates darkness thrice as fast and often, and additionally, you attempt to create creeping darkness on your tile up to once per turn if you know the talent.

Pain
Willpower 30/32/34/36/38
Level 14/15/16/17/18
Use Mode: activated
Cost: 15 hate
Range: 5
Cooldown: 12
Usage Speed: Mind
Is: a mind power

Description: Inflicts excruciating pain upon the opponent, dealing 321/435/523/598/665 [at 100 mindpower] mind damage and stunning the target for two turns if it fails a mental save[the damage is still dealt if they save versus the stun, but of course, being mind damage, its damage is lowered if a mental save is made anyway, just not necessarily lowered to 0; furthermore, enemies immune to being stunned still take damage from this talent]. This talent is only usable in terror form.
At talent level 5, while in terror form, Reproach attempts to stun what it hits for 1 turn, Hateful Whisper attempts to daze for 1 turn, and Agony gives the target a 10% chance to fail their actions while it's active.[changed agony doesn't lose the extra effect if it is used just before terror form wears off]

Dark Invasion[name pending, any ideas?]
Willpower 38/40/42/44/46
Level 18/19/20/21/22
Use Mode: Activated
Cost: 12 hate
Range: melee/personal
Cooldown: 15
Usage Speed: Mind
Is: a mind power

Description: You reach your dark tendrils into the ground and out into the insides of your opponents[pending description up to here] within a radius of 3 around you, dealing 60/79/99/118/138% weapon damage to them and lowering their saves, damage, and global speed by 20% for 2 turns if they fail a save against your mindpower[the damage is still dealt if they make the save]; if Gesture of Pain is active it receives the same damage bonus when using this talent. This talent is only usable in terror form.
At talent level 5, while in terror form, Willful Strike and Unseen Force daze their targets for 1 turn, Deflection reduces damage taken to the shield by 50%[it still deflects 50% of the damage the taken by the player, leave that out of the description], and Blast will attempt to stun your opponents for two turns as well as dazing them as it normally would

Unleash Anger
Willpower 46/48/50/52/54
Level 22/23/24/25/26
Use Mode: activated
Cost: 25 hate
Range: 2
Cooldown: 40
Usage Speed: Mind
Is: a mind power
Description: Greatly amplifies the hatred of the target against the world in an attempt to drive them mad, confusing it (50%) and causing it to lose its target then become hostile to all(including you) for 2/5/7/10/13 turns unless they save against your mindpower. If the target resists the confusion or somehow removes it before the 2/5/7/10/13 turns have elapsed, the hostility to all ends immediately. This talent is only usable in terror form.[the confusion debuff is called confused by anger][this talent will not mind-control the player, but instead just act as a normal confusion, but still be the confused by anger debuff]
At talent level 5, while in terror form, you give all enemies within line of sight a 1/2/3/5/6% chance, decreasing with distance down to 20% of that chance at radius 8[which is the maximum range of the effect], to be stricken with a random known fear or Panic, and and as well dealing damage to an opponent also has another 1/2/3/5/6% chance to afflict them with a random fear or Panic; additionally, the foe that you are feeding on has another extra 5/10/15/20/26% chance per turn to get stricken with a random fear or get Panicked each turn. Fear inflicted by the means of this talent can apply heightened fear if the recipient is close enough and you know it, and you must know the appropriate fear talents in order to apply them.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

so the target being fed on gets both a 6% chance per turn to get feared or panic and a second 26% chance to get feared or panic, and wherever panic is mentioned in the above talent it has a 1/7 chance to be chosen instead of a fear if you know panic, and the fourth talent won't attempt to put the same fear/panic on the guy that the guy already has
and of course you need to know the relevant fear talents for this to do anything and their talent levels are used too, and the passive fear chances are capped at 8%, 8%, and 35% respectively

there would also not be any talents from the psionic/nightmare category involved, at all, and the parts in brackets are to be left out of the talent descriptions and etc.

if the devs ever want to add this category to doomed, they are free to do so whilst editing it to their desires if they do so wish

bumping this since I've fleshed this out almost completely, and since 1.4 is coming out soon and I heard doomed is getting a new category, maybe it can be this one too?

This is a lot more likely to happen if you code it yourself :p that's the only reason the new tree is even getting there. Sadly that tree is unlikely to do much for doomed as currently shadows just die off and having a tree that revolves around using them to attack is guaranteed to fall short.

This tree seems pretty fantastic, and it seems to have a lot of what doomed needs in my opinion. It's strong, it synergizes with a lot of the unique and interesting skills of doomed and adds some more on top so I'd be pretty happy to see it happen.

Some these ideas I think could still be implemented. I like the sound of them

These ideas are good, but this isn't really what Doomed needs. Doomed already has three locked categories and just four unlocked ones, plus it wants to spend a point boosting Shadows. If this is implemented, I would like to see Fears changed to unlocked.

One issue this category has is it is dependent on you beating your opponent's mind save, when Doomed doesn't have good ways of doing this. A talent like Spellcraft for mindpower would be welcome.

What are three locked categories of Doomed and what are their functions?

This did give me an interesting thought about Doomed. What if the hate elemental/terror thing was a core mechanic based off hate? Have abilities generate hate, when you reach max you turn into your terror form and empower all your basic abilities, but drain hate until the form expires.
This might be because I like WoW's shadowpriest void form though.
