[1.4.5] Dark vision does not work around corners

#1 Post by Kror »

I had a lot of weird issues with dark vision not working and read that some other people had issues too (probably because the graphical effects show everything as dark, except that you see enemies on those spots.)

It turns out that dark vision just does not work probably around corners:

Dark vision radius 7:

Track:

The elemental should have been visible with dark vision radius 7, yet only track made it visible.

As an additional issue:

Enemies that are only "visible" by other means than normal sight radius screw up targeting around corners. The line is drawn as if you target that square naively and does not get the smart adjustment as it would if the target was visible by normal means (making them unhitable like that).

Might be the same issue source, since dark vision does not seem to work like e.g. infravision but more like the targeting.

Why would the elemental be visible? Were you at the place of your shadow, you wouldn't see it, would you?
It's supposed to reveal shadows' line of sight, not all enemies around them.

It's what Shadow Senses does.

You already explained Dark Vision in another thread.

Tracking takes a turn and Creeping Darkness spreads slowly. How do we know the elemental was in the darkness area on the first screenshot?

What tyren said. It's about dark vision, not Shadow sense.

Yes sorry I figured that would be a problem with these screenshots:
The elemental was at the same spot when I did not use any darkness.
When I used darkness it vanished from sight.
With track it appeared again in the same spot.
Disabling track made it vanish from sight again.

Despite my 7 range dark vision, it could still managed to move out of vision in this example, but I tested it several times after that on more sure occasions (e.g. with ranged enemies and my shadows in front of the shadow or with enemies in long corridors without any way to move out of vision).
Plus there is still the issue with targeting it.

I'll try to provide better screenshots when I get the occasion. Villagers or training dummies should be better suited.

These ones should be safe.

Visible without darkness blocking sight:

Not visible with darkness blocking sight:

Tooltip says range 3 should be visible:

In a straight line range 3 is visible:
