Hey,
this one should fit the category of "Dumb Question" just nicely, so here goes.
For items that state "Changes Damage: +10% Darkness", I was under the impression that the damage I cause, whichever type it might be, get's an additional component of +10% as Darkness damage.
So, if my Berserker hits a rat with a totally unmagical chair leg for 10 points of physical damage while wearing a ring giving the above bonus, he would cause 1 additional point of Darkness damage.
I'm coming to realize this is wrong. What is meant here seems to be: Whatever Darkness damage my character causes will be 10% higher thanks to that item, right? So, if my Berserker stabs the same rat with a highly magical "Greatsword of Ultimate Darkness and Death" for 10 points of physical damage and 100 points of Darkness damage, then the Darkness bit gets the bonus, thus coming in at actually 110 points.
Correct?

Re: Elemental damage bonus
yes.
"change damage:+x%y", increases any y damage by z...
where did z come from? its total.
+x% of the same type, are added together to make 1 number, and then any damage you do is multiplied by that.
when you play a game, press c, and then take a look at the offence tab. there, you will se all your damage modifiers totalled up.
if you want a weapon, that does a % of its damage as y, take a look at tirakai maul(t2 greatmaul), skull cleaver (t2 axe) or elemental fury(t3 ring)
there are probably some other item that do that.

Re: Elemental damage bonus
Thank you.
I just found a dagger stating "Damage (Melee) +6 Darkness".
I assume, THAT actually does base damage of that element, which would in turn be modified by other items affecting that type of damage?

Re: Elemental damage bonus
Yes, you are correct.
A little bit of a starters guide written by yours truly here.
Re: Elemental damage bonus
i am fairly certain "darkness +6" is a proc damage, not base damage.
Re: Elemental damage bonus
Yay, follow-up question!
What's proc damage? Couldn't find anything in the Wiki...

Re: Elemental damage bonus
Look at your weapon description in the inventory. In the first lines you have
Damage type: xx
xx is generally 'physical', and it is the base damage of your weapon and, generally, the highest.
But some weapons (mostly artifacts) deal another damage type.
+ 6 darkness (or whatever) is an additional damage (a proc), that does not change the base damage. With a +10% darkness damage you have your base physical damage + 6.6 darkness damage.
