Interesting game... Unfortunately Maj'Eyal sucks

#1 Post by krwada »

Yes... I have been playing Rogue for many years. In fact; I was there when the original Rogue was written using CURSIS on UNIX BSD 4.0 back in the late 1970's to early 1980's. I really enjoyed all the variations even including Rick Saada's Castle of the Winds Port to the Windows PC back in the early 1980's

This game does come close to the original Rogue genre. but there are a few issues:

1. This game is very buggy.
2. The networking capabilities leave a lot to be desired.
3. The game play is a bit tedious.

Even on the most basic character class there should be a way to completing the game ... but in my opinion it is way way too difficult.

Now... I did donate 120 Euros to this game. I thought it had a lot of potential.

I do believe I will not be coming back...

Sorry!

Umm what?
Is this some sort of bizarre well spelt trolling?
What does 'networking capabilities' even mean in the context of a roguelike?
Loads of people have won the game with every class and alchemist is considered to be one of the more powerful ones.
What is even the point of this thread?
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.

Hey, sorry to hear that you're not happy with the game. It obviously won't be suited to everyone's tastes and preferences. It's unfortunate that you didn't go more in to depth explaining what you dislike as the game is constantly evolving and improves in part due to player feedback. Also, and somewhat importantly, you didn't post this on your own personal blog or the like but on a community forum dedicated to the game. The post as written doesn't end up serving any productive purpose and just gets under the skin of those who do love the game.

Sorry to see you go, I feel it's a loss when anyone decides the game isn't for them. If you want to actually post more about your reasons it might be helpful, although ultimately it might just be a case of what you like being different from what the game actually is. If you do post again please try to have it be productive and not inflammatory; I urge others to take that advice as well.
<astralInferno> poor stunt

Game has been won on all classes on multiple difficulty levels many times. Its all documented in the vault. Heck an Insane Doomed won, granted that was by a player who kind of specializes in that sort of thing.

Either way its just not a valid criticism. Its factually wrong. However the classes are not equally balanced with each other, that is also, basically, a fact. I don't care whether they are balanced with each other personally.

The game does have networking issues, at least for me, its drop connection quite often. But this isn't an MMO so w/e.

This games lineage is from the Angband/*band line of roguelikes and as such is not actually that closely based on Rogue. Sure the genre name is Rogue-like, but in reality this lineage is pretty much starting with Moria and then onto Angband. Its gameply, while substanially altered, is roughly in-line with Moria/Angbands. Expecting *band lineage games to line up to Rogue and other games trying to capture a similar feel, is almost certainly going to lead to disappointment.
