How do non-Cornacs unlock a fourth talent category?

How do non-Cornacs unlock a fourth talent category?

I know escort quests grant locked categories, and several categories can be unlocked and trained for money. This does not appear to be the case here.

A 4th category point is awarded from use of a certain item you might find, later in the game.
Currently playing under the name Aura of the Dawn 4 down, 227 to go!
