Randarts generation

#1 Post by Kadarus »

Can absolutely any bonus be generated on "red" and "orange" randarts? Even things like resistance cap increase, which do not appear on regular items at all? Or are there some restrictions on it?

egos are divided in 2 groups, lesser and greater, each individually having it's own rarity.
the item "quality" goes as follows: white-green-blue-purple-red(rare)-orange(randart)-yellow(artefact).
lesser egos, can be found in any item, except for white (who don't have any) items and fixed artefacts(which are, well, fixed).
greater egos, can only be found on purple or above i believe. (or blue and up)

so yes. red and orange can have pretty much any egos.
however, keep in mind the item type. you wont (naturally) find a weapon ego on a plate armour.

I believe you can find all resist on weapons. Some you can find some strange stats.
A little bit of a starters guide written by yours truly here.

I believe the resist cap increase is specific to amulets, but yes it can randomly spawn on Unique amulets.

Actually a randart is an item with several random egos and a set of additional powers.

Egos are a set of coherent features adapted to an item type. When generating a randart, the egos are picked among the available egos for the items type, and, for what concerns resist cap, it only appears in the 'protective' ego that can only exist on amulets as Effigy said.

Powers are simple features (max encumber, water breathing, slow on hit, etc) that are added to the randart whatever the item type. That can lead to unusual, great or sometimes weird results. For instance, this way you can have a weapon that increases your carrying capacity (while no ego do that on weapons). Or an item (for instance a digger) that regenerates mana on spell crits while this does not exist in any egos and only appears in a couple of rare artifact staves. Or an antimagic item that surges spellpower, etc.

I check and resists cap cannot appear as a power. So expect to find it only if a random amulet picks the protective ego.

Thank you. So randarts are several random egos plus some powers.
The wiki lists all egos, but doesn't have info on what randarts can have.
Also, it lists protective ago as "Increases armor, combat defense and physical resistance". So is it outdated info?

a lot of the wiki is indeed outdated, but it has a lot of info that that is hard to find anywhere else.
