now, i know there is already a topic for ego ideas, but this is en entire new type.
normally, a white item is the worst version that can possibly pop up, but how about items that are outright repulsive to most?
i would also like to see how some people could actually make a good use of them, if ego like these were added.
double edged: (any weapon)
every time you attack with this weapon, you take 5% of the damage done by it as bleed over 3 turns.
dull: (any weapon)
damage reduced by 20%
lit: (any weapon)
100% fire conversion /or/ on hit: xx fire burst.
every time you attack with this weapon, you take 5% of the damage done by it as burn over 3 turns. (can stack)
choking: (amulet)
while wearing this item, you lose 1 air per turn.
in exchange, the it increase the ego modifier by xx%?
plagued: (robe?)
whenever you are hit, you have 5% chance to be infected.
distorted: (staff)
any time you use mana, you take arcane damage equal to 25% of the mana used.
in exchange, increase your damtype+ by 10%, and add some SP
any time you use paradox, the cost will be increased by 25%
bad ego?

Re: bad ego?
I'd rather have double-edged egos rather than fully negative egos. Lit looks fine, as does distortion, especially if you aren't a mana user

Re: bad ego?
yeah, some "bad egos" can be turned around. if you have a disease or poison, you can turn on the waters of life and make it heal instead.
but other egos, like "choking" are JUST bad, and require compensation.
as for "distorted" (not distortion) hmm... its only for staves but even so...
i guess some of them could use some work.
i am glad that you like the general idea.
how about this
haunted: (light armour, or a ring.)
every urn there is 10-20% chance to summon a ghost, which will be hostile to everyone.
may behave differently in a presence of a necromancer, possibly even an artefact.

Re: bad ego?
Unique effects like that behave better when they're an artifact's ability, not just an ego.
Anyways,
These would probably be minor egos:
Replacement for double edged (all non-staff weapons)
+ physical damage
- physical resist
Pliable(?) (body armor)
-armor
+defense
Heavy (boots)
+armor
-Dex (or defense)
Unstable (belt, helmet, probably a few other places) --probably a greater ego, and is quite similar to cursed shrouds abilities.
+random chance for out of phase buff when hit
-reduces damage for same duration

Re: bad ego?
Actually choking are not so bad, there are items to fully negate effect.(water breathing, and one that turns you undead and makes you not require air to breath.)
Re: bad ego?
If it's removing one air per turn, water breathing won't help.

Re: bad ego?
although, undeath may.
i was thinking about egos that are just bad unless you have a specific build in mind.
for example, a witherer could use a bit self inflicted debuffs.
double edged wasn't meant to be a "trade off", it was literally meant to hurt you when you use it.
its plain bad, unless you can somehow use bleeding to your advantage. which i do not know if there is. (aside from witherer, but he uses staves.)
things like choking however, while there may be way to make it harmless, (undeath) there wil never be a way to make it a positive.
that's why i want to it have an upside to it, maybe.
in case of "lit", well...
it just would make no sense, to not inflict fire damage on enemy as well, in some way.
now, since there are effects like "elemental explosion", or "desease/blind/damagereduction/shield pen, it is pushing the concept of a "unique" effect.
in case of "haunted" specifically, i can agree.
especially if it has a very specific interaction with a class.

Re: bad ego?
We used to have egos that had downsides, but they got rid of them in the last big ego cleanup.

Addons: Arcane Blade Tweaks, Fallen Race, Monk Class, Weapons Pack
Currently working on Elementals. It's a big project, so any help would be appreciated.

Re: bad ego?
It is already hard to get a decent orange artefact with most late game gear being yellow... Don't make it even harder with double edged or negative egos.
Re: bad ego?
if this could be made into an addon then...
but i don't think it would necessarily affect orange much.
the egos are already divided between normal and greater egos, and as far as i know, orange only pulls out of the two.
bad egos could be a group of its own, and also have its own item class, that is only one that can draw them... maybe.
