Challenge Time: Brawler

#1 Post by Faeryan »

I've played quite a bit of classes and trying to score a win with each is getting a bit tedious so I thought why not have an entertainment run just for the kicks.

There is this achievement for winning the game with Bikini/Mankini on from the start and never removing it to equip armors.

Below I'm trying to hide a spoilerific info on unlocking Bikini/Mankini for those who don't want to know it.

Bikini/Mankini cosmetic option
Complete Melinda, lucky girl to unlock the Bikini and Mankini birth option. You must be a donator to use this option once unlocked.

So, for our challenge run we're going to want to unlock this achievement. Not many of us have it before so there should be stuff to do for quite many.

So, who would wear a Mankini? Wrestlers? Borat? Correct, we are going to play a character called Borat and he will be a Brawler. In order to make Brawler a Wrestler we need to Invest in Grappling tree. I was thinking Invest at least one point for every 5 levels but since the category is locked it would create unneeded anguish.

What if we decide to unlock the Grappling tree at lv20 and invest one point for every 5 levels starting from lv20 making it 7 points investment at lv50. Sure you could open it with your last category point and spend the last 7 class points on it IF you wanted, since I've understood it's not the most desirable Brawler tree. BUT, we don't want to cheat, so play nice.

Back to wrestlers, what are they like? Huge! Thus we want our race choice to be Ogre.

That's it, we're going to swarm the character vault with Ogre Brawlers named Borat wearing mankini and investing on Grappling.

We don't want to make this excessively hard so feel free to pick any difficulty / playing mode you want.
If you already have an Ogre Brawler win and/or Mankini achievement then feel free to change the gender to female to get the Bikini achievement instead and some other race to get a Brawler win of that race if you already have Ogre.

Also, IF you decide to play one be sure to post a link of your character on this thread, no matter if he's dead or alive, winner or not. If you're running multiple runs please don't post each character on different post, instead edit your post to include/replace your other character(s).

Short recap:
Race: Ogre
Class: Brawler
Name: Borat
Body armor: Mankini all the way
Grappling tree ublocked at lv20 and at least one point of investment in that tree every 5 levels.

Go!

isn't this topic a bit miss placed? i think it probably should be in character reports. Even if its not quite complete yet.

Theoretically, you could put anything in general discussion, it's pretty general.
A little bit of a starters guide written by yours truly here.

Updating things here a bit:

Here's my current running character: http://te4.org/characters/62644/tome/5b ... 34de2fc49b

Right now level 22, the same level that I decided to let go of my first Brawler character due to few too many deaths.

The start was a smooth sailing. Anything and everything I could catch I'd grab and not let go, chokeholding them into submission. Few notable ones to mention are the Horned Horror, Sher'tul Butler and Urkel the Tempest.
That's when the trouble started. I insisted on going Antimagic because of the Mankini. Relying on Runes of Shielding wouldn't be enough for the whole game so I was hoping AM would help there, but WIL investment with already right Generics might prove troublesome.

We'll just have to see about that.

EDIT:

And the link above should show a proud winner mankining it happen. It wasn't always smooth sailing. At around 30 I scored a few really embarassing deaths and one really amateurish mistake (ran headlong into a squid I thought was a regular but it was a purple Oozemancer) and few more in the Orc Prides. The last death in the entrance room of the pride with the stairs to slime tunnel nearly broke me. I instantly quit creating a new character but after playing it for few levels I decided being on my last life ain't the end of the world; it's just like playing Roguelike mode.
I got back to my character and paid more attention to little details, also getting that Psychoport torque that would have saved me earlier at least twice.
Farmed some farportals as I didn't want to go to High Peak unprepared but when I got enough money for merchant artifact I thought screw it, few levels here or there don't make a big difference.
Last Peak itself was rather easy. Tunnels were such that not many enemies got to ambush me at once and I could fight 1 on 1 most of the time. Brawlers 1 on 1 always win whatever is against them. Stair Guardians were a joke. So was Elandar. Argoniel proved rather durable and portal spawned Multihued Dragon provided some backup breaths which made me heal a few times. Other than that the last fight was nice and easy.
