The most useless prodigy? Looking at you, Lucky Day

Re: The most useless prodigy? Looking at you, Lucky Day
This is kind of off-topic from the original, which is, How do we make Lucky Day not suck so much?
I still argue for something that doesn't just passively raise a bunch of stats. I did like the suggestion of rerolling damage and using the higher or lower values for incoming or outgoing damage.

Please help with the ToME wiki!
Re: The most useless prodigy? Looking at you, Lucky Day
how about luck affecting loot? lowering the chance of a "green" or blue item, and increasing chances of purples.
can a pink or orange item drop from normal enemies?
maybe have % chance to rank up the looted items, with no effect on white items cause... you know the 2 gems.

The real question is... Why does luck have no affect on how much gold drops?!
A little bit of a starters guide written by yours truly here.

Well, it does seem odd if 'luck' causes extra gold to appear that would otherwise not be there, doesn't it?Micbran wrote:The real question is... Why does luck have no affect on how much gold drops?!
Now, there IS one Cursed effect which causes you to get less gold overall..

and if i remember correctly, pretty sure it was a shroud of bad luck, misfortune or something like that.
so apparently luck can affect gold drop... but only the negative?

Re: The most useless prodigy? Looking at you, Lucky Day
There are already lots of active prodigies. Passive ones are needed as well. You may find active prodigies more interesting, but others find them more difficult. The interface for ToME is very crowded for some classes and on a small monitor (and remember, not only are there people who still use narrow monitors, but ToME is on tablets too now) active prodigies are useless because of UI limits.ibanix wrote:I still argue for something that doesn't just passively raise a bunch of stats. Every stat has 2 or 3 prodigies that require UI space and 5 or 6 that don't. Except Cunning, but Tricks of the Trade give access to multiple active skills and Worldly Knowledge can give multiple or no active skills depending on the category selected. Will is at 2 active 6 passive so it could go active, but a lot of will prodigies are narrow or difficult to unlock.

Re: The most useless prodigy? Looking at you, Lucky Day
atarlos, NOONE in here suggested making it an active.
an example of "not just passive", is elemental surge. (i call that kind of talents pactive)
it is passively active, in that when condition is met it activate itself.
when you brandish something you can just pop a 500 points shield.
people are trying to make it stronger, and more interesting, no one is suggesting to make it "on demand effect"

Re: The most useless prodigy? Looking at you, Lucky Day
Well, Master Shizzle proposed making it active.
Ibanix, your damage reroll idea doesn't work. Damage roll happen behind the scenes, so it won't make the prodigy feel like it's "doing something" any more than adding passive stats does. Effectively, it IS just a passive +% weapon damage stat. The only difference from a flat bonus is that re-rolling reduces variance, which actually means that luck in the metagame sense becomes less important.

Ok, he suggested that... at the very beginning.
Still ibanix hasn't, and it was to him that Atarlost responded to.
Noone has suggested it on this page!

"Feeling like it's doing something" is not the only or even the best way to define interesting. More significant is if it impacts your other choices. Elemental Surge doesn't. You can't get its probability of firing up because you can't normally get more than one or two proc chances a turn and the odds of firing are low so you can't plan on it happening. It may as well not exist from a decision making standpoint. Superpower, on the other hand, is just there in the background but it changes the weight you give to stats for the rest of the game.

Honestly, I'd agree -- I don't mind it being a bag of stats. But Ibanix evidently doesn't like passive stats, so I figured I'd point out that their suggestion is actually interchangeable with that.
