It is a generic category.
Why do all classes need unique categories? They have unique mixes of categories. If someone made an Arcane Archer by mixing AB and archer talents and removing some melee restrictions from currently AB exclusive trees without actually writing any new talents would that devalue the AB or make the new AA purposeless?
Rogue may be at risk of becoming Shadowblade minus and in need of help, but if that help comes in the form of borrowing trees from the archer to make a switch hitter would that be less valid than if it came in the form of a new exclusive tree?

Because there isn't much point in having a class in the game that's just a weaker version of another? And because if the class doesn't have any distinguishing features it's just uninteresting compared to other choices.
And to be fair, Rogue -is- pretty much inferior to Shadowblade in every way in its current state.

Classes don't necessarily need to have unique categories to stand out. So long as their orientation in playstyle is different, a class can play in a distinctly different way then another. Temporal Wardens for example use to to be an amalgamation of categories found in the Rogue, Archer, and Paradox Mage classes. They stood apart from all three other classes regardless of all the shared categories due to their playstyle orientation.
Then there of course is the Marauder class which share Bloodthirst with Berserkers and Battle Tactics with Bulwarks - and Bulwarks and Berserkers which share Warcries and Superiority (but I'll ignore this since those categories are a bit lacklustre). All these categories really fail to take away from the Tactical playstyle of the Marauder, and Relentless playstyle of the Berserker, or the Defiant playstyle of the Bulwark.
And Rogues are indeed inferior to Shadowblades. They should definitely be in line for an analysis perhaps (maybe not by me).
Maybe rogue needs a more focus on stealth and assassination. At least one unique tree or something to help they become less inferior shadowblades. Which reminds me, can someone list the reasons why they are inferior? That might help provide a starting point.
As for the actual topic, the assassin lord is a shadowblade, right? You could always throw in that illuminate tree or whatever it's called for magic users, since that one is the most focused on stealth. Technically.
A little bit of a starters guide written by yours truly here.
Rogues are pretty inferior in comparison to Shadowblades when it comes to Moblity Buttons, Defensive Options, and Build Choice. While they got some help a bit ago due to gaining Acrobatics, they could still use some more options for their Class Talent Points to be deposited in.

There's no ranged stealth class. Rogues could get the sling trees off the archer and have something the Shadowblade doesn't (ranged attacks other than that one light spell) and something the archer and skirmisher don't have (stealth and a melee option).

Well if the problem is the randarts, why not allow him to open up a Black Market at some location, with some of the more... sinister... artifacts and the like, possibly after the completion of a new unique quest with a guaranteed unique artifact.
These artifacts could have new Power Sources, which could either have new effects or be purely cosmetic replacements.
