Unable to log in

It seems to have my information. It has my donation status and I can make a stone warden. I guess unlocks can't be transferred.

No, unlocks can be transferred. I bought the game on Steam a week ago and transferred all of my unlocks from a few years of playing the free version.

1. Are your unlocks listed on your profile page at te4.org? Does it list there the unlocks you believe you have?

2. In addition, are your unlocks specified as such in the relevant text file in your Tome folder on your hard drive? This is *not* the folder in which Steam installed the game (i.e., C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\TalesMajEyal). Rather, I'm talking about the folder in your [user] folder in Windows that all installations of ToME refer to. That pathname is:

C:\Users\[username]\T-Engine\4.0\profiles\online\modules\tome\allow_build.profile

Open "allow_build.profile" in Notepad and verify that your unlocks are recorded there. If not, that explains why you're not seeing them.

Ordinarily, you unlock something in the game, it updates that text file, and then it updates your online profile according to that text file.

However it doesn't have my winners. It has my achievements and total play time.

Also the C:\Users\[username]\T-Engine\4.0\profiles\online\modules\tome\allow_build.profile doesn't exist for me, which is probably the issue. I only have three files:

artifacts.profile
characters.profile
scores.profile

Would I be able to transfer the allow_build.profile from my other machine to this one?

There is a little bit of confusion which is why the link didn't work for me. I'm transferring from a machine that uses Steam to a laptop that I will use when travelling and won't have internet access all the time and will also not have Steam installed. So I'm going the opposite direction that you went, from Steam to non-Steam. The link on the profile page is for non-Steam to Steam I believe.

I (and others in this thread, it seems) thought you were trying to link your Steam account to the game. Instead, if I understand you correctly, you want to link your laptop non-Steam installation of the game to your prior Steam desktop installation, such that the unlocks and achievements you got in Steam will carry over to your laptop non-Steam installation. Is that right?

Your prior Steam installation should still be referencing the file "C:\Users\[username]\T-Engine\4.0\profiles\online\modules\tome\allow_build.profile". It should have updated that file when you unlocked various things in the game.

When you installed ToME on your laptop, did you copy over - in its entirety - your tome folder from "C:\Users\[username]\T-Engine\4.0\"? I would think that would be pretty important if you're going to continue your ToME experience elsewhere.

Go look at your Steam installation on your desktop. Is "C:\Users\[username]\T-Engine\4.0\profiles\online\modules\tome\allow_build.profile" there? If so, you need to copy it over to your laptop.

Yeah, the game executable reads from and updates your 'home' ToME folder. Your online profile will shadow this. If you read questions 2-4 in the FAQ, it explains this:

By "home directory," it's referring to "C:\Users\yourusername\T-Engine\4.0\". That directory needs to be copied to every machine on which you run ToME. (BTW, if you progress in ToME on your laptop, and then want to continue on your desktop, you're going to have to re-copy your home directory from your laptop to your desktop, if you want it to have access to your latest unlocks and achievements, as well as save games.)

BTW, it's not really the *Steam* folder you need to copy over. That is, *don't* copy over:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\TalesMajEyal

Rather, copy over:

C:\Users\[username]\T-Engine

Or you could idle in the main menu while you wait for it to download the unlocks from you account.

I tried this but it didn't work. It may work for going from non-Steam to Steam but the reverse likely doesn't work.

Great! Just keep track of that ToME directory. It will be updated by your current non-Steam installation on your laptop. If you want to switch to playing on your desktop installation, you'll have to copy the (now updated) ToME folder back there. (That's where your save games are kept, BTW.)

For all I know, there's a way to keep your ToME folder in a cloud service like Dropbox, point everything to that, and never have to manually copy it over. But I've never tried it because I only play the game on Steam on a desktop anyway.
