[131][Old bug]Ability positions are not saved on the hotbar

#1 Post by Suslik »

How to reproduce:

Create a new char. Allocate some skill points. Place abilities on hotbar where you feel like it(i use double-row large hotbar if that matters). Save. Die. Hit create the same character. You end up with most of the abilities where they were by default instead where you place them.

I asked DG to try and reproduce it, and he says positions are saved normally for him. Verty weird thing is that only about 50% of abilities end up misplaced(I tested on temporal warden with mines positions always ends up reset, while basic attack position as well as infusions are saved). Can anyone elaborate on how is this possible?

Since it may be somehow affected by filesystem, I'm using windows 8(was same on windows 7) and dg is apparently in linux.

Afaik it has something to do with the "start with the same character". If you just create a new one (same race/class) then everything is ok. They seem to need to die completly for the preset to be saved with positions.

I am encounterin this very often and I recall that this is the problem. If you want the positions to be saved, you have to let the char die completly and start anew.

how this normally works
when you get an ability that you had before, it checks the position.
if the position is taken by another skill, it places it in the first (from the left usually) empty slot.

but since you are making a new character, i assume you don't have many slots taken huh?

also, possibility, since slots aren't reserved, it also depends on your pick order, and checks the last position from any of your characters. if you got the ability, on another character it will also be taken into the count. in that case, it doesn't matter which of the 2(or more) characters you played last, just the one that moved it last.

example, you played 2 characters. a rogue, and an archmage. both dual techniques and fire spells were placed in slots 9 to 12.
then you play a dual wielding arcane blade. all the abilities are trying to get to the 9 to 12 slots. unfortunately, there can only be 1 ability in each slots, so the other talents have to be send to the que.

there is a "known unknown" of swapping 2 abilities with eachother.
for example, if i drag and drop flurry over flame shock, the flurry will be placed on flame shock's slot, and flame shock will go to the flurry's slot. flurry, as it was the one dragged obviously wil be saved. but what about the flame shock?

edit.
person above says its "on death" and not on move... well what do i know.
