Spells with melee attacks

#1 Post by ghostbuster »

There are many spells that trigger a melee attack. In that case :

1/ What will determine the occurrence of a crit? Spell crit or phys crit?

2/ Obviously melee project effects do apply, but can spell on hit effects (as granted by some objects) be triggered?

3/ For these effects, what check will be done: Phys Power or Spell Power vs save?

4/ And if such an action is duplicated by GW Focus, is this action still considered as a spell?

1) Phys crit for the melee attack. I don't recall any vanilla talents that also use spellcrit for additional effects.
2) They can proc talent on spell gear as well as the Higher racial that grants them 15% damage bonus from casting offensive spells, in which case the damage bonus is whatever your melee element is.
3) It depends on what the talent is coded to use, the attack being a spell doesn't override anything.
4) If you're asking if GWF procs on melee spells can proc talent on spell stuff, I'm not 100% certain but leaning toward yes.

4) I'd lean towards no.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.

GWF most definitely does not trigger on-spell, it merely repeats the attack with numbers passed to the last attack.

The question was if it could trigger off of attacks created by spells (eg. wave of power). I'm not sure why it wouldn't. The weapon spells seem to just call the melee attack code the same way non-spell melee talents like shield slam do.
