I have a confession to make – I hate playing as cheesy/broken/munchkin classes. That's kept me from touching the Doombringer just yet. But I'd certainly like to check out the Ashes content and go for the Demonologist unlock, so I'm wondering if there's a way of playing Doombringer that's a little more in-line in terms of balance. Are there any particular talents that, if avoided, would lead to a less-broken build?
Or perhaps just bump it up to Nightmare and call it good?
Any non-abusive way to play Doombringer?

If you want to try Demonologist, you could play as a Doomelf. Doomelves can unlock Demonologist as any class so long as they start in Seared Halls.
I'm not crying. I'm offering a sacrifice to DarkGod in hopes he'll show favor to me.

Don't gimp yourself.

Play pure caster?
Shadowflame/Heart of Fire/Fearfire trees.
Vim limitations however...
also feels like Flame of Urh'rok has way too high of a sustained vim cost

Try playing Nightmare (Roguelike) and it doesn't feel so broken. I wouldn't say it's overpowered in its current state, but maybe too strong to be challenging on Normal difficulty.

Doombringer feels pretty balanced on Nightmare. Your offence is amazing as always, but you're relatively vulnerable. Died twice to being burst down by rares in a single turn. One was a fellow Doombringer that double Draining Assault crit me for 700, instakilling me through my shield.

I played a pure caster before the heart of fire and fearfire trees got changed, and it worked decently well, ended up barely winning on normal. It can work, but its not exactly great, decent fun though.
