I've noticed that in my online profile all my characters are marked with the above.
At a guess, it might be because I'm running Linux Mint (thank you for the port!) and the game crashes fairly regularly, taking my system down with it. It isn't often enough to put me off playing, but I now wonder if it's going to be more than just an annoyance. In addition, my wifi isn't 100% reliable.
Does this matter? If so, is there anything I can do about it? It'd be disappointing to notch up a win and have it considered a cheat.

Well, you should still be able to upload your characters just fine, so long as you're connected when you do the uploading.
If you're worried about random people finding your character and thinking you cheated, there's not much you can do about that, but for characters you share yourself you just have to let them know why it records that. Maybe it's just me, but you say you don't cheat to get your characters even if you were offline? I'll believe it.
So, no worries except a very small amount of people you don't know and will never meet or in any way communicate with thinking you cheated on a videogame. If you can live with that, you'll be fine.

I get the same, running on Windows 7 with no crashes. I figure it's a server thing, and that it happens to a lot of people, if not everyone. If that's the case, then it's a meaningless label anyway, so it doesn't bother me.
It would bother me if it was just me, and I can see why you would be worried, but I can at least assure you it's not a Linux issue.

Strange, I just noticed my characters have the same notice. I'm on Windows 8.1 playing through Steam, and I don't have many issues with crashing. There are a couple times I had to kill the TOME process due to an infinite loop loading a zone though.

Its just a warning that the data there might be out of date.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.

It's strange, but I find even single-player games more meaningful if other people can see how I'm doing. I played nethack on the alt.org server for that reason, even though my only interaction with the rest of the playerbase was my post to the newsgroup when I ascended. One of the things I like about ToME is that it provides this visibility.Red wrote:So, no worries except a very small amount of people you don't know and will never meet or in any way communicate with thinking you cheated on a videogame. Thanks, that's reassuring.donkatsu wrote:It would bother me if it was just me, and I can see why you would be worried, but I can at least assure you it's not a Linux issue.
Oh,interesting. I'll keep an eye on it then.HousePet wrote:Its just a warning that the data there might be out of date.

Character Reports. It's for all your victories, your especially interesting/embarassing losses, and whatever crazy goal someone's trying to do (Mankeli and his Madnesscromancer).
So if you're one of the batshit insane people who actually like playing on Madness, pick any class from Tiers A-C (or a Necromancer and try to beat Mankeli to it) and record your progress like Mankeli did. We'll all be very interested in seeing how you do.
Class/Race Tier List
Mankeli's Madness Necromancer
And finally, talk to Mex, Mankeli, and cctobias if you decide to tackle Madness in a new way. They've got a lot of experience with ToME, Madness in particular, and both Mex and cctobias have some incredibly good advice and guides. Mankeli has not, to my knowledge, written any guides or similar, but he's still got more knowledge on Madness than most anyone else.
