I enjoyed facing Luminous Horrors on my recent Sun Mage (an addon class).

The Sun Mage is an arcane-celestial caster with Fire, Sun, Radiance, Wildfire, and... Phantasm. With my regular talents, I could do nothing against these creatures that (even with resistance penetration) could chew up all of my damage and spit it out as healing.

My strategy was to lure each one of them out alone, equip the Spectral Blade (with no weapon combat talents, mind you) and whack away and away, hoping for a series of timely Silences to shut down all oncoming heals and damage shields. I had to initiate combat with each one of them dozens of times before I could defeat it.

Of course, the sensible, roguelike-wizened approach would have been to drag them to a far corner of the level and walk on by, taking the stairs to the next level. I guess I'm too easily excited by a thorny combat situation like this one :P.

Like everyone else I hate brittle clear oozes, oozemancer rares, and luminous or radiant horror rares, but I really hate things that I can't see.

I especially hate Wretchlings because they have no excuse. Invisible and stealthy enemies, enemies with blind, and enemies that summon darkness are at least deliberate. Wretchlings just have an ability they spam that has bad particle effects that stack until they're effectively opaque.

The Horned Horror is my least favorite boss in the game, couple by the fact that I absolutely loathe the alternate maze. Massok, the backup guardian, is also pretty horrible and has killed my mages more than I care to admit.

Dreaming Horrors are a special, albeit rare, enemy… so freaking hard to kill! Definitely the most difficult enemy in the game for me and the only one that I consistently run from if I get the chance.

Now, if I'm a melee character, I find Dreads in Dreadfell to be immensely annoying when they summon a million allies and find myself doing 2% of their life per turn. Ugh… just a time-sink.

Early level skeleton warriors which constantly stun are irritating as are Oozemancer rares but ultimately, the prize has to go to Oozing Horrors and basically everything in the underwater 2nd level of the underwater dungeon on the way to the always obnoxious Weirdling Beast.

Slasul. Not because he's in any way, shape, or form hard in the slightest by the time you fight him. No. It's because he will always, without fail, get hit by some AoE attack you did, probably one you didn't even intentionally perform, and turn hostile. Every last character that has met him has angered him, and it's so freaking annoying.

Aside from that, any rare that has talents they shouldn't (level 9 archmage, no big dea-WHY DOES HE HAVE WILDFIRE 5/5/5/5?), any enemythat has talents above level 5, and the worst possible rare you can encounter-the rare that has a really similar build to yours, only better in every way.

Honestly, I don't mind Luminous Horrors, Worms That Walk, and other enemies that are really hard and counter a lot of builds. That's part of the challenge, and that's most of the fun in ToME. I just hate enemies that are annoying, especially if they're annoying without being a challenge.
I'm not crying. I'm offering a sacrifice to DarkGod in hopes he'll show favor to me.

It hasn't worked yet.

I killed one in the Ruined Dungeon by simply equipping a dreamer's robe that had the Lucid Dreamer bit in the description. It tried to Dreamscape me but I resisted and just killed it with a spell or two. The Eye of the Dreaming One also ought to help with those horrors as it confers 100% Sleep immunity.

Brittle clear oozes. On my brawling/magic combat adventurer I could create like 20 oozes in one talent execution (due to all the aoe crit procs etc). I did the oozemancer unlock dungeon on Insane with that build and I created so many extra oozes that if that mob actually had a "mass" stat the total extra mass created by hitting oozes would have caused so much extra gravity that the entire planet of eyal would have collapsed into a blackhole and instantly killed all online players.

They need to be slightly changed so that while they may violate the law of conversation of mass they don't completely and utterly rape it. Or just give them a mass stat that is cut in half on the clone and there are no clones after it reaches a certain number.

Quasit squad leader rares. They usually have the eternal osmosis shield going that never drops as they must have an infinite amount of vim. They also like to have deadly class combos like a Sun Pally with Arcane Combat and lots of lightning strike spam.

I've been playing ToME for quite awhile and I have to say that the enemy that I have the most trouble with is the player.

I build luminous horrors and have to spawn them in packs but still they often die. I put worm that walks in and I have to give that guy a custom talent to deal with Unstoppable, but still the player kills them on occasion. I made horrors that are mostly teeth, practically land sharks. Again I have to put them in packs. But the player just drags them into a corridor so I have to write new talents for them to deal with that and even that doesn't always succeed. I made a whole new class just for Nightmare and Dreaming horrors but still the player kills them sometimes. The poor Dreaming horror I even made non-hostile but the player doesn't care :( The player attacks them anyway.

I mean, next thing you know I'll be trying to break the laws of both time and space in my hope to help temporal horrors survive. Temporal Stalkers tearing apart spacetime? Like a temporal version of the predator? I'm liking the sound of that.

Clearly they need an offensive version of the timeline-splitting talents.

I once encountered a unique imp that had some 3k hp versus my l15 ghoul bulwark.

He would not have the courtesy of standing still long enough for me to get whacking. He was invisible, shorted me for negligible damage, then phase door away and go invisible.

I searched every store for a low yield tactical nuke to fry his bouncing B-hind but no such luck. I hated the smug look on his face, knowing I could not touch him.

I have a special place reserved for this one. Warm... Suffering... Eternal.
“It is so depressing to think that we suffer because we are fools; yet taking mankind in mass, that is the truth.” Bertrand Russell
