option to revert to last save in case of program malfunction
i am not talking about a get out of death cheat. i have had several characters that innocently tried to go to a new level and the level did not spawn correctly or something and my hard won character was stuck, unable to move, see anything or get out of it in anyway. goodbye character when i did not make any sort of player error or get killed by an out of depth monster or NPC.
so i would like to be able to go back to the save before that and keep my hard earned experience with that character.

you can't just allow loading any previous save and hope that no one will use it normally lol.
if you encounter such bug, report it in corresponding subforum and it will be fixed instead of making suggestions that produce more problems instead of solving what they're supposed to.

When you encounter stuff like this you can usually get ahold of Darkgod on IRC (rizon.net #tome) and he can use the network if you're online to (hopefully) save your character.stormbringer wrote:i am not talking about a get out of death cheat. i have had several characters that innocently tried to go to a new level and the level did not spawn correctly or something and my hard won character was stuck, unable to move, see anything or get out of it in anyway. goodbye character when i did not make any sort of player error or get killed by an out of depth monster or NPC.

well one thing that would help is to not save on entry into a new level unfortunately when this bug happens it seems to save the game in the messed up condition.Suslik wrote:you can't just allow loading any previous save and hope that no one will use it normally lol.

Re: option to revert to last save in case of program malfunc
The bug with levels failing to be generated is usually irreversible, therefore rendering the save unusable...

That's how I normally play other games which offer such an option (e.g. the various Civilization games).Suslik wrote:you can't just allow loading any previous save and hope that no one will use it normally lol.
One save, auto-save backups to save me from bugs.

Re: option to revert to last save in case of program malfunc
i discovered that by using items from the expendables add on that allow phase door or teleport that are instantaneous i can bounce (eventually) to within range of a hostile that upon taking an action on me unfreezes my ability to act. even if they kill me (provided i have a life left) going to the afterlife and back also solves the problem. this works so long as the game loaded far enough to at least put part of my interface on the screen. black screens with no interface or effect icons visible are still impossible to escape from though.

also using it to scum save would be impossible if the restore function is available only for two or three moves on the new level. if you ghost/grey the option out after a short delay it can't be used to cheat, right?

...Wait, just to double-check, when you say "expendables add on", do you mean Utility Supplies? There shouldn't be anything in it that provides instantaneous teleport (reading scrolls is supposed to take a turn, after all); if there is, let me know and I'll fix it.stormbringer wrote:i discovered that by using items from the expendables add on that allow phase door or teleport that are instantaneous [...]

I regularly manually backup my save files, myself. Weird shit happens pretty often. You can pretty reliably just swap current save folder with an old one.
People can call it save scumming or whatever I don't care. Its pretty much standard save handling really. You can cut off your nose to spite your face it you want, that is your perogative. Just copy paste your save folder into a folder name "charname saves" and name it to something that has some meaning like "charname - level40" and forget it about unless you get some weird bug and need to revert.
Even if you revert its not like it matters, more often than not you lose out. I have done it a few times when I forgot to do Derth Arena before level 14. A couple times I lost nice artifacts (for the level) and never got something as good (for that level).
TOME 4 games take too long not to do this IMO. I suppose an officially feature that did it would be a good idea, but you can do it yourself fine as far as I can tell, it doesn't even impact the online profile really, I think that just gets overwritten by whatever the last save for that character is.

Re: option to revert to last save in case of program malfunc
I'd like to put it out there for anyone who doesn't know - I can almost always fix these things. Look in the emergency help thread and try to get ahold of someone listed, and if need be open a ticket and submit your save for me to fix.
<astralInferno> poor stunt
<astralInferno> you suffer so that others may suffer in the intended way
Have a save in need of fixing? Open a ticket, send me a copy of your save: http://www.te4support.org/
