Re: Short staves ta dandart vendor?
Yes there is, short staves are just normal staves with the 'short' ego.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.
Re: Short staves ta dandart vendor?
Could you calrify, HousePet? If short staves are just staves with the short ego, where can you reliably find the short ego?
I'm not crying. I'm offering a sacrifice to DarkGod in hopes he'll show favor to me.

Nowhere.
Which is hardly surprising for an ego.

Re: Short staves ta dandart vendor?
Short staves are meant to be an interesting sidegrade for classes that already use staves.
They're not really meant to be something you rely on. Trying to rely on them on a normal dualwielder, to the point where you don't have to level knives or weapon mastery, isn't really designed for them.
If I could see anything positive it brought to the table to make them reliable, it might be one thing, but they already get a lot of hype as being overpowered in roles they weren't really designed for. Reliable short staves would probably have to be nerfed short staves.

Remind me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know only Reavers really focus on short staves. Everyone else might make use of them, but they're only a neccessity when you're able to dual wield two of them.

Or if you use a shield (Sun Paladin, Arcane Blade, Demonologist), or if you dual-wield but don't care much about your off-hand damage (Shadowblade, Temporal Warden).Red wrote:Remind me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know only Reavers really focus on short staves. Re: Short staves ta dandart vendor?
Hands used is really not something that should be on an ego. If I'm an alchemist or two hand sun paladin or arcane blade buying randarts the ego is as much a deal breaker as getting one of the antimagic egos would be if they weren't blocked. For that matter archmages and necromancers and the like also don't want to waste an ego on them. There's pretty much nothing useful to put in the off-hand slot for classes that don't have combat style trees except Telos' bottom half.SageAcrin wrote:Short staves are meant to be an interesting sidegrade for classes that already use staves.

Crystalline Dagger, Lifedrinker, Lunar Shield, maybe Temporal Rift or Shieldsmaiden are a few I can think of.Atarlost wrote:There's pretty much nothing useful to put in the off-hand slot for classes that don't have combat style trees except Telos' bottom half.

Maybe a mindstar as well?

Re: Short staves ta dandart vendor?
Mindstars primarily give wildgift/pisonic bonuses. While you might occasionally find something useful on a mindstar for a magic class, I can't think of ever finding a mindstar as an archmage and even considering keeping it.

Yeah most of the mindstar artifacts are designed for Oozemancer and Solipsist. There are/will be a few for Wyrmic and Mindslayer that overlap with Archmage elements.
Because of the generation table, rare mindstars are more likely to be useful than rare staves.
But anyway, this is why I added Sceptres, Ritual Blades and Wardstones in my addons.

I sure have.Red wrote:Mindstars primarily give wildgift/pisonic bonuses. While you might occasionally find something useful on a mindstar for a magic class, I can't think of ever finding a mindstar as an archmage and even considering keeping it.
I've seen +max life, life regen, +% blight resist, +% fire damage, and +% fire respen on a t2 randart mindstar.
Higher tiers can get much better.
Since you may end up with a one-handed staff as your best staff, there's no reason not to save decent Mindstars.
Re: Short staves ta dandart vendor?
Maybe... maybe make it so, if you save the lumberjack village, they can add the short ego to a staff for a fee? Honestly, the image of you handing over a magic staff to someone and then them taking an axe to it and handing it back is amusing enough I'd love to see it in the game.
I'd be fine with the short ego getting a small nerf in the process -- lower base damage, maybe less SP/spellcrit or something. Or not, really... they are just green tier egos that don't do anything but change handedness. The existence of the magewarrior prefix still leaves the good stuff in the hands of the RNG.
