I have a character on dreadfell 9 and I can't find the Master. I've dug enough of the level so there is no more room for him to hide. He is simply missing.

Two things come to mind.
First off, he uses invisibility. While you probably would have found him even with his invisibility, it's a chance.
Second of all, things can spawn inside walls. If they do, they are completely, totally, utterly indestructible, and if they happen to be right on the edge they can actually still hit you. However, if they spawn several squares inside, they're basically just in stasis.
