I have a 16 turn pick and tried digging a tree marked as diggable. The log shows the same as a successful dig except for the last line, and the tree stays put. I've tried this with a few different characters without success.
In Gates of Morning:
Calis uses Dig.
Digging starts...
Dug for 17 turns.
Tree turns into sand.
In Slazish Fens:
Calis uses Dig.
Digging starts...
Dug for 17 turns.
