Greatest # of extra attacks you've seen on an item?

#1 Post by Maylith »

I hope this isn't considered a spoiler.

One of my characters just found a weapon with +3 attacks (sadly, she can't use it well.) I've seen these before, but it was unusual enough that it stood out. I *think* I remember seeing a higher number than that in the past in various other *bands, but can't be sure.

What was the highest number of extra attacks you've ever seen on an item, be it a weapon or a ring? I think those are the only types of items that get that flag, but I could be wrong. (I'm not talking about class or experience or ability modifiers here, btw.)

I'm just curious to see what might be out there.... I know a perusal of the code could probably tell me, but it's more fun this way :-)

I've found items with between +7 and +10 to two of speed, extra attacks, and critical hits. (randart rings of speed or critical hits can have fairly high pvals and randart rings can get extra attacks) These should vanish in 3.0.0 if they haven't already been removed.

I've never found one of those insane +8 rings. Highest I've seen is +3. Maybe Neil's code only fixed them for the OS X version... or maybe I'm just unlucky.

Come to think of it, I have found a randart ring that had -5 to attacks... maybe I am just unlucky.

You have to be really deep to find them. They can crop up in greater vaults in Angband, or in the lower portions of Mandos.

Earlier today I yoinked a randart with a +12 pval from a Speed Ring Market. That pval applies to speed, strength, intelligence, charisma , and -- -- attack speed! It sustains strength and grants resistance to acid, confusion and chaos. Who needs extra arms with a ring like this? This assassin is getting 20 blows with Belangil (which has +2 attacks itself). Maybe I will get Spread Blows after all...

Also, many people have found shovels and picks that give one to three extra attacks (and usually boost several stats as well). An old character of mine found one of those.

Just check this url: that's the most attacks I ever have seen generated in game (and has been reported to the bug forum, of course).

I did make some +16 to speed boots once, but I don't know how common these high speed boots are in ToME.

I have found only +3 rings, swords and a boomerang.

d) a Small Wooden Boomerang of Aman (1d4) (+17,+13) [+4] (+3 attacks)
It increases your wisdom and attack speed by 3. It strikes
at demons with holy wrath. It strikes at undead with holy wrath. It
fights against evil with holy fury. It sustains your charisma. It
makes you completely fearless. It allows you to see invisible
monsters. It allows you to sense the presence of evil beings. It has
been blessed by the gods.
You found it in the remains of a Great Wyrm of Perplexity on level 71 of
Erebor.

I never throw this.

The Ring 'Anthrim' (+10)

It affects your intelligence.
It affects your speed.
It affects your attack speed.
It sustains your wisdom.
It provides resistance to poison.
It provides resistance to blindness.
It allows you to fly.
It cannot be harmed by acid, cold, lightning or fire.

I have only found up to +3, but the best ones were in a digger, which is much more liberating to the inventory than the other places.

Along the same lines, which is the lowest attack speed bonus you have encountered? For me it's -3 in a randart called the Claymore of Endelin I just found. It also had aggravate, heavy curse and the ancient foul curse as well as +9 to hit and damage, slay demon and +1 to light radius. Who makes those things?

I just just picked up a randart ring with +9 to INT, CON, speed, and attack speed. Unfortunately, the only useful thing on it is the speed...INT and CON already at 40, and I'm a sorc! Sigh, why do you always have to find fabulous items...for other classes!? Seriously, is it programmed to make things useful to your class rarer? I remember when I ran archers, I had an incredibly hard time finding any ego bows or crossbows, let alone randarts. Any other class, see them by the ton.

RNG is out of theme.

I like to think that an enemy sent a gift-wrapped specially-made claymore to poor Endelin the dragon-hunter with a card that told this was a claymore made to kill dragons. Endeling then, seeing how the claymore shone with magical light and felt very special, decided to try it and found himself stuck to a weapons cursed with foul spells that eventually brought him to his doom and left the claymore stranded in Angband.
