Extreme lag on a nice Rig

I'm a sucker for hardware, but also a sucker for roguelikes. Which is easy because I could play a couple thousand at once with the monster that is this rig. But I got back into Tales after 4-5 months, just to see some of the new content. And bam. Lag city. I've tried everything, all the graphical settings, reinstalling, add ons (Remove all, get others). Different resolutions, starting as an administrator, destroying every other process running. The damn thing is just SLOW. Was there anything since Feb that would cause this on higher end machine?

is it unplayable lag, or noticable lag? whole game? or later on in the game?
how long does it take, to make an action for you at the bagining?

Fragmentation? Flush log setting? Drivers missing OpenGL content?
