I like how Rare items use Lesser egos, but I don't like how they are clamped to a single ego.
If Rare items had two Lesser egos, they'd retain their role as "oddball" items but not be worthless when compared to purples.
I wouldn't mind if they also broke the prefix / suffix limitation like Randarts do, so you could get "impossible" ego combos, like two prefix or two suffix egos.
Does this sound reasonable?

Re: Rare Items - Minor Buff
I dunno, do they need more buffs?
I've been finding rares to be a very viable piece of gear for the entire game after the randart changes.
On the other hand, the original proposal for rares having a lesser ego had them getting two lesser egos in very high level(40+) areas, so I'm obviously not entirely against this...

I'm mostly fine with this, though I'm not sure if letting them break prefix/suffix rules is something that "should" happen. Then again given that they're lesser egos that's probably not a big deal.
Re: Rare Items - Minor Buff
I don't develop this game, but as a player maybe I can offer my experience.
In my last game I had a rare ring I used until the mid 40s. It was a very nice ring.
I would say that most of the time purples are better than rares, but every so often rares get something awesome.
Still considering how hard rare enemies can be to defeat a slight buff could be nice.

I'd be for giving Rare enemies a buff, very rarely do I find a Rare Ring worth using.

Re: Rare Items - Minor Buff
I'd be much more happy if the power tables were actually good.
Using egos just bypasses the underlying problems with them.
All that extra melee damage is not useful on a staff.
They still need to be sorted out to fix up randarts.

Re: Rare Items - Minor Buff
@HousePet - I thought Shibari did some fixes on the randart power tables, do Rare items use a different table?
Also melee damage could be great on a staff, for certain classes. Bollock's Big Knocker does see use.

Shibari did some cleaning up of the tables.
Making them better hasn't happened yet.
The problem with staves is that they only get melee powers.
