Cursed Aura not working

I unlocked the cursed class and think they might be really fun, but when I equip two items with the same curse I do not seem to be getting the benefits (only the negative effects). I am under this impression because the stats on my character sheet do not reflect gaining the benefits and when I mouse-over the current affects, only the detriment is highlighted.

How do I gain the benefits? I had multiple cursed items equipped, two of which had the same curse, so I thought i would gain at least one benefit from that type of curse.

They are really fun, especially when you get them rolling.

I take it you've already accepted the Cursed Aura dialogue.

What level character were you using, and more importantly, did you put any Generic Points into Dark Gifts? They provide bonuses to your curses, based on the ones you are currently wearing.

I am actually referencing a character that died. I did unlock the cursed Aura with him and I believe I put a point into dark gifts, but still saw no benefits.

Is dark gift necessary to gain any benefits? I was under the impression that equipping multiple items of the same cursed type (i.e. madness, shrouds, etc.) gives you the benefit described and dark gifts improves that benefit.

If I recall correctly, the power level of the curse was 3 (it says the power level next to the name when you mouse over the status effect icon) but only the detriment was highlighted and my character sheet did not reflect having the the benefits.

You will not receive ANY benefit without Dark Gifts. If I recall, you can stack the power as high as you want (through investment in the first talent) but without investing in Dark Gifts, you're squandering those generics.

You can only access Curse benefits with the corresponding level in Dark Gifts.
