Crash corrupted save file

The game began to save itself, the save counter went over 100% to 200%, then it crashed and the save file doesn't load now, the progress bar is stuck at 87%. I suppose there is no way to repair the save file?
I lost a relatively promising char, I didn't think that I had to make back ups for this game too -_-

Yep, no getting back the char.
I've had this happen to me twice. Once some add-on complication caused it and I lost the file.
Second time my hd was full and I cleaned the trash to free up some space to continue file saving. This time I managed to save properly.

That's the my case, my HD suddenly got full while playing ToME4 (I'm still not sure why, may be it was my pagefile.sys) but I didn't clear the space in time. IMHO if the game kept a copy of the files which it rewrote till it would finish rewriting, it would be able to restore one's saves if something went wrong.
