Sneaky fighting? (Spoilers!)

#1 Post by Kaerwek »

In one of the starter dungeons, I found a Giant village, and opened a sealed door, found the house full of Giants. Teleported away, while my golem died valiantly.

I've read that creatures do not get activated until the character sees them, or they see the character (or some minion of the character). Now I wonder, will those giants stay put now that I escaped, or is there a chance that I'll encounter them in the passages close to the giant village?

Assuming that the door is still open, can I in theory throw a bomb in front of it, damaging giants inside? How would they react, if they hadn't seen me before that? I can in theory enter the village from the side using Gem Portal. So I can try to sneakily fight them, i.e. throwing bombs from the side, while (trying) to stay hidden.

I'm still level 8, so the scores of Elite Giants are a bit intimidating. Can't remember the level of the boss either.

Iirc those giants won't wander off too far unless they have a hunch on your location which I don't think they have if you do a long range teleport for example.

If you throw in a bomb though I bet they'll take a peek outside. Also there's usually a purple chieftain who might know a teleport spell.

Enemies in sealed vaults have a status: In-Vault. It's like a time prison effect. It breaks once they see you or your pets. If your golem was destroyed, then they're active. Damaging an enemy who hasn't seen you gives them the psychic ability to know exactly who did it.

You can always go back later.

At what level can I take them on safely? Here's my character:

I'm not aware of any starter dungeon that can spawn the Giant Village vault.
Are you sure it was a starter dungeon?

The only one I'm aware of that can spawn it is Daikara...
And it was such a good idea...

Yes, the one in Daikara.

Is that a second tier dungeon? Do'h, I went in there as my first dungeon after exiting the Dwarf starting village... :P No wonder that it felt kind of difficult at times.

Not only is it a tier 2 dungeon, it's generally regarded as the hardest of the tier 2 dungeons.

I like the part where he at level 6-7 enters a lv 20ish area, whacks some dragons and animals, maybe some horrors too, then half a giant village and decides to call it a day saying: "it felt kind of difficult at times." xD

I usually save Daikara for last. That dungeon has killed me more times than Dreadfell...

Oh,

I played very cautiously. Went into all areas, tried the dragon twice but fled both times. Don't remember if I managed the third floor or not. In any case I often had to retreat, rebuild the golem and simply pray at times that the golem could distract them long enough for me to get out of confused state. Remember when I first went into the giant village. Golem died and I ran like hell from one end of the map to the other while every now and then got confused. Being Dwarf probably saved me... so yeah, 'At times it kind of felt a little difficult'. :P
