"Magic the Gathering"esque module

#1 Post by Sradac »

So I just had it out in a long fight as a summoner, vs an orc summoner and thought to myself man this is like magic the gathering up in here.

And it came to me. That'd be a cool module, a simple small environment like the Arena, Except you battle different Summoners of types and the "class" you pick at the beginning determine your overall flavor of summons. Arcane heavy, element heavy, melee heavy, a balanced one, your standard ToME summoner, etc.

I wouldnt see this as a MtG clone or even anything close to it other than you and your opponent both summon creatures and cast spells at each other.

I really have no clue what it would take to build a module like this, just throwing the idea out there. Anyone that feels they could actually pull it off and want to, feel free to take this idea and run with it. Im sure you could do it better than me.

summoner duels might be interesting though ai and control might be a bit tricky. Since everything already exists in tome (like the party system, ui and other useful things) it may make more sense to make a campaign like the arena. That way I don't need to re-invent the wheel and such. So for actually making this I would advise an addon (its pretty easy actually, just make a few summoning talents and you are good)

So some other ideas/thoughts for this.
Is this just a 1v1 where the character is thrown into a fight and the character is destroyed afterwards. or is this a series of fights where i can tweak things before my next fight. Are there leveling or some other persistent way of gaining power. Edge was discussing the idea of a "deck" of talents that would cycle through and such and this would certainly
If there is persintance is there a world to explore/plot happening/decisions to be made or am I just running some gauntlet of enemy summoners.
This idea would'nt take much to get working so if you want to give a shot at making this and can get you an addon where you spawn as a summoner in a small arena pretty easily. From there you can go about in any direction you want pretty easily
Those who complain are just Volunteering to fix the problem

<yufra> every vault designer should ask themselves exactly that: What Would Grey Do?

What's the status on this idea?

I'm quite curious about it... But nobody is saying anything. :(
