Reduce orc patrols based on prides felled

#1 Post by Grey »

Lots of people say there are too many orc patrols in the East. One way of reducing them would be to make them go down ~20% with each pride conquered. This way the orc dominance of the East is still clear, but it's also clear that the player is making a difference. Plus it would give some urgency to the assault on the prides, instead of the current attitude amongst players of "oh, well I'll just have a slow wander, mop up some xp, etc".

Agree entirely with this idea.

Nice, I think it should be 'specific' though - perhaps decrease not just the patrol amounts(by 15% rather than 20%?)but also the chance of specific orc types showing in there.
As in - if you destroy the Wyrmic/Summoner pride, much less chance of getting these orcs in the patrols. Basically, change not just quantity but also quality/composition.

I like Zonk's idea to change the composition of the patrols according to the Prides that are destroyed.
It would make your action mattering even more on the world, something that is always good.

I third Zonk's idea. It also opens up an interesting tension of whether you should assault the hardest pride first, so that the patrols become less deadly, or save them for last and deal with the patrols.

That's actually a really good idea. Would love to see that, esp the reducing composition based on which prides you kill. Might make me go after Rakshor FIRST for a change, just to get those necrorcs out of the patrols.

I definitely agree with both reducing the number of orc patrols and altering composition based on destroyed prides.

Great idea. Would probably need some additional lore to go along with it to let players know they are having an impact.

Pleased to see people are liking my suggestion.
As for now lore so the player knows why they're no longer seeing orcs of some classes, if they don't realize on their own - perhaps Aeryn/sunwallers might comment on that when the player returns.

It might as well be mentioned in advance in Aeryn's 'destroy the prides'speech. Something like how the patrols are made of orcs from all prides and thus destroying each would weaken them.
