Hah, I don't think that's very fair, but they're definitely not as good at communication or as approachable as you. And the fanbase is more stuck in its ways, more easily upset by changes. ToME has evoked controversy with its changes in the past (removal of item identification, removal of potions, no monster respawning, etc) but the majority of the community have been supportive and that's helped these things get accepted. Whenever DCSS changes anything, even minor things, you get a lot of fans up in arms and a stonewall of silence from the devs.

Much more pleasant here :)

Be sure to remind everyone in the chat to vote for their favourite roguelikes!

Might well be ... haven't ever really gotten into Stone Soup (my Roguelike carrier, such as it is, is something like Nethack -> Slash'em -> ADOM ->= ToME) so i don't have any finger on how it goes for it, other than it have been one of the 'big' roguelikes for quite some time

Still say someone should fork DCSS, port it to lua and release it as a t-engine module, restoring all the 'controversial' cut features, to make the audience happy.

Added benefit, doing so will poach the entire DCSS playerbase into joining us as T-engine players, no doubt eventually leading them to tome, and generating interest for the software and revenue for darkgod.

Someone get on this. Seriously.

Also, tis fascinating that DCSS is losing out to Noxico in terms of vaults. The little Roguelike that could is rising!

General opinon over on the voting place is that someone (although probably not connected to Noxico) have abused the voting mechanisms ... mainly due to the fact that it gained 2800 votes in less than 24 hours, and this is more than threads (or was it even posts) on the game forum

Someone must enlighten me here...

The winner of the poll is a game I've never heard of, which didn't get any vote before the last day, and when googled send you to a - site. Sounds fishy...

Easier to check their roguebasin page.

Suffice to say, there were vote-bot shenanigans. (on several sides.)

Yeah, checked that, didn't get impressed at all. Clearly not worth the title of roguelike of the year.

Wow.
Check out my addons: Nullpack (classes), Null Tweaks (items & talents), and New Gems fork.

Yeesh. Do I want to know what those stats represent?

Also, what sort of "erotic" game uses ASCII graphics and needs to ask people to provide erotic prose? No way is this legit.

Botting is worse than I'd thought. See, Noxico comes from Corruption of Champions' forums. The maker of that game had nothing to do with it but with all the forumgoers there, who knows right? I AM quite happy that, barring cheating, my two favorite and longest played RLs won.

The developers just don't seem to give much weight/consideration towards community ideas and such.
They "make the game for ourselves."

How is ToME in this area? I'm new so I don't know. :)

From what I've seen, DarkGod definitely has his own vision for the game, but he also has an almost superhuman ability to incorporate feedback from the community. Balance complaints and suggestions are promptly addressed. UI suggestions and UI addons are often (not always) rolled into the main game. The game's higher difficulty levels are (AFAIK) the direct result of player feedback and are regularly tweaked in response to them.

To give one example, a couple of months ago, there was some (slightly tongue-in-cheek but justified) discussion about how shallow the dialog in the game's romance sidequest was. In less than a month, DarkGod released a new version with a completely rewritten sidequest with all-new dialog and content. (He did this while also implementing Steam integration and releasing the game onto Steam. Like I said, almost superhuman.)
