Why not give aegis for tempest peak?

#1 Post by meiam »

Started playing not long ago, I'm guessing this was already discussed but can't find it. I was wondering why clearing tempest peak has an arcane class didn't award aegis, similarly to how clearing it with zigur give you fungus. I've only cleared the game once has a cursed, but fungus is insanely good (the game became cake walk after getting some point into it, cleared the ambush without even realizing I was supposed to die), and honestly every arcane class seems to severely suffer from being unable to access it, only exception are the class that have access to aegis. It would seem logical to award it to arcane class (so much so that I'm guessing it did at some point but was removed).

I've just started a stone warden, and honestly if there was a way to break your anti-magic vow, I would clear tempest keep without using any spell just to get fungus.

Because losing access to arcane equipment and escort rewards is a big nerf to most characters, Fungus helps even it out. Aegis, on the other hand, would be just a power boost to most characters that don't need it.

Ehh, personally my main problem is that the game feels rather lop-sided as-is when it comes to unlockable skill trees. Willpower characters get good use out of Harmony, Anti-Magic, and Fungus, while Magic characters get...Hexes. Let's not even get into comparing Mindstar Mastery vs. Staff Combat. Willpower characters just end up being more fun to plan out and play because they have so many options they can toss in, compared to Magic.

It's not like Zigur characters are really losing -that- much. They get their own escort rewards, and adapting to the lack of arcane gear isn't too bad, especially since there are some nice arcane-disrupting items to be found.

Losing arcane equipment is really no big deal, in fact it's just bringing non arcane class to arcane class level since arcane class can't use arcane disturbing equipment (I'd go so far as saying being flat out unable to use them is better since you won't accidentally equip arcane disrupting equipment which can end up killing you if you don't notice it).

As far as escort quest, the only one that you lose that's sorta good is anorithil, and even that's only good for arcane class and you can't count on getting it.

Rune is the only large loss, but fungus is a far better than shielding rune at keeping you alive, and movement infusion are far more reliable than phase door/teleport. Shielding rune are so rare, my arcane warrior still had the starting 100 dmg shield rune in his mid 20, where I could have brought a 300+ healing infusion.

If I could keep casting spell with arcane character as a follower of zigur, I would make everyone of my character a zigur follower just for fungus (even without anti magic shield it's worth it, imo)
