Some ideas for inventory improvements:
1. Mark arcane items for antimagic players.
Why? Because as anti-magic I absolutely cannot use arcane items, and would like to see them marked so I don't even look at them when browsing my loot. Right now I often consider viability of an item for my character, only to realize that I can't use it anyway. Waste of time and not fun.
2. Mark anti-magic items for arcane players.
Well, this one is not as clear-cut as the previous one, because in theory arcane users still can wear anti-magic items... It's just that's not a good idea most of the time. Still, I think it would be nice to see that at first sight.
3. Search inventory by stat/property/resistance/bonus damage/etc.
Now this is to help with finding that one water-breathing amulet thing among 20 different jewellery items I gathered. Or to find all my Con-enhancing equipment in order to level up Thick Skin. Or max lightning resistance for Derth elementals. And so on. Right now it's cumbersome. Especially with rares/randarts, when the name doesn't even hint at what's inside.
3a. Not sure how possible it is, but it would be neat if the search also took fortress' storage room into account. I often leave some loot there only for the purpose of swapping it to get that talent/prodigy/whatever, and then I have to look through all the junk I left lying there because I don't remember what was it. Especially if I had a break from playing the character, or if I have a few games running simultaneously.
EDIT:
3b. Perhaps search in shops too? Not sure about how viable or desired it is. But right now should I decide I really need something and I don't have it and would like to check shops for it, I'd need to go to every city and look into every shop that can reasonably have the item I want. Which could mean all of them if all I need is a swap with some stat boost. Also, easier way to see if there's anything good after a restock.

That'd be welcome utility certainly. Especially the first two.
Perhaps give arcane and anti magic (and psionic and natural) items an overplayed color?
Perhaps even a simple purple, magenta, yellow and green would work? Items with multiple might be more difficult though.

I think one thing that could work is having colored boxes (just like the font color boxes to the right, whenever one makes a post on these forums), in the appropriate color(s) (purple for arcane, whatever the colors are for psionic and nature, light blue for arcane disrupting, etc.), located just to the left of encumbrance for magical items. Multiple boxes would obviously be present for items with multiple power sources. A mouseover popup on those colors, stating the source of power, would be interesting to implement for the sake of new players. The Revanchist wrote:That'd be welcome utility certainly. For anyone that doesn't know, you can tag items in inventory by clicking on them and selecting "Tag" which allows you to give small notes on items.
Not exactly what you're looking for I know, but it could be helpful for future endeavors. Perhaps give players the ability to auto tag certain items they pick up (arcane items are auto tagged "=Arcane=" for example

It would be good to have bulk actions. Flag several items - than take/drop/transmog/extract gems from all.
