Which item for a Rogue?

#1 Post by Istrebitel »

Can a skilled player explain to me which item should I choose for a rogue and why (I included my defense page).

From what I get, as a Rogue I should have no problem with physical damage, but should stack all I can for magical resist. So, should I choose the inferior cloth armor for spell save, or rather choose the leather one for better armor and on hit proc?

If it were me, I'd go for the Eel-Skin Armour. Ranged attack and better defenses.

Also, next time you post an image, could you scale it down a bit? As it is, the image width breaks the page tables.
And it was such a good idea...

Go for the ranged attack. (But keep in mind that the proc itself might not help you that much, since most rogue attack talents aren't nature gifts.)

Saves only protect against statuses, not damage (with the unique exception of mental save sorta helping against Mind damage.)

Eel-Skin armor would absolutely be the superior option of the two.

There is no real comparison here.

Saves
Vs
1. Defence
2. Cunning bonus
3. Dex bonus
4. Lightning proc on hit
5. Ranged lightning attack

Saves are not really important in this game. They are not unimportant but they are not as important as most people seem to consider them. Keep in mind they are also blunted by scaling meaning the more you get the less effective they are per point.

To put it in perspective, the sealskin is one of the best all around armour drops for the early game across all classes. Measure all the other armour relative to that ;)

Thanks for help!
However, if saves aren't worth it, how do I protect myself from magic? Do I have to stack every kind of resistance?
Also, what does "On hit (nature)" actually mean? How do I "hit" with "nature"?

Any talent labelled as a Nature Gift.

Saves are most definitely worth it, but it's a question of balance and diminishing returns. The higher your save, the less you'll get from equipment. So, for example, to raise your Spell Save from 2 to 3 requires just 1 point, but to raise it from 43 to 44 requires 3 points. As a Rogue, you don't want to be hit in the first place, so Defense is going to be more important than Armor, and the Eel-Skin gives you plenty of Defense.
And it was such a good idea...

Basically yes. Magic saves won't protect you from damage, but only from magical effects. The iceblock from Freeze? Is a physical effect, magic save will not help - but physical save might. You'd still take full damage and need cold resistance to protect against that.

Where magic saves can come in handy is fighting corruptors - diseases are magical.
