I'm trying to understand how the weapon mechanics work because when I compare prices in shops, some of the weapons have high purchase prices yet I cannot understand why this is so... I have looked through the forums and read through the wiki, and I think I have at least a passing understand of the basic mechanics.
I am running a level 14 Berserker (after a few restarts understanding how the mechanics work and getting clobbered going into the wrong areas), and I have been doing pretty well this run. I have generally decided to focus on the power range on the 2H weapon first with stats/procs second (since I assume procs are not affected by some feats like the base weapon damage is - just an assumption based on other games of this type I have played).
However, when I look in the shop I often see weapons of the same type (i.e. "2h axe") with basically the same stats except a much lower damage range + a different proc (or a special proc that seems weak) that are very expensive. I've compared the individual stats on these weapons at times, line by line, compared to my green 50-70 power 2h axe, and the only difference besides being purple and some minor stat variations is the proc, which from the description often seems fairly weak. Yet the item is priced often 3x what the weapon I am currently using is (i.e. 250 vs 90 gold). The proc on this weapon would no way compensate for its loss of base damage as the difference is so dramatic.
So either the pricing is wonky or it overly values certain procs, or I just don't understand how weapons work quite yet. I'm worried it's the latter, and since I sell a lot of yellow/orange weapons that have much lower power (i.e. I have seen a bunch in the 20-40 range for 2H weapons), I want to understand this better before I throw something away that might be significantly better.
Any insight?

Re: Weapon Damage vs cost in shops
Pricing is wonky.
Weapons (and other stuff) come in 5 tiers, metal from iron to fancy stuff. Then they get "egos", like "of massacre" (lesser) or "of gravity" (greater) which determine the color and the price. Pricing puts a premium on greater egos, which is why the violet weapons are so expensive. They are not necessarily good.
Weapons and armor tend to be quite expensive in comparison to inscriptions and torques/wands, relative to their utility.
Usually what you see is what you get, with the exception of the yellow-orange stuff, which are fixed artifacts and sometimes have special powers hinted at in the description. But pink, violet blue and green stuff: if it looks useless, it is.

Ghoul never existed, this never happened!

The answer is, all of the above.
Just ignore the price, it will never correlate with how good an item is for your character.
