Although as a (presumably) young, vital person, the thought of dying is probably far off. So much so that adding infinity years isn't really a pressing concern yet. At the very least, they may choose to quickly crush the enemy under their boot first, to facilitate an easier transfer.

Celia isn't pursuing Necromancy for herself.
Being old does not appear to be a requirement.

I consider her (Celia) an exception. From what I can tell, she suffered a huge (death-related) loss recently. Her husband, I believe?
Anyway, that'd remind her just how mortal she is, and obviously make reaching an immortal state so much more "necessary" in her mind.

Celia researches Lichform because she wants to live long enough to carry her foetus to term.
I reiterate, however, that the fluff is extremely explicit that Lichform is the goal of ALL necromancy. Celia became a necromancer because she wanted to become a lich. Why she wanted to become a lich is a separate question. Necromancer = lich wannabe; if you didn't want Lichform, you would be an Archmage instead.

I'm pretty sure she just wants her husband back.
She isn't dying of anything except maybe sadness and adventurers.

All those skellies were just a rehearsal for when I cast it on myself!

I kindly remind you that she is locked in a crypt for several weeks, presumably without any food, and already sustaining herself with something like Blurred Mortality, as the lore suggests.HousePet wrote:I'm pretty sure she just wants her husband back.

All that is beside the point. The point being, whatever the lore says, first the players can do their own thing, and second there is no necessity for the relative gameplay power of talent trees to conform to the opinions and expectations mentioned in the lore.
Yes, they should do things as described in the lore - where it is not deliberately inaccurate - but just because every necromancer on Eyal thinks Lichform is the bee's knees doesn't mean it has to be.

Then the fluff needs to be read with some skepticism. You know, like in school, who was the author and what was his (or her) agenda?
Lichform as a no-brainer would be bad, lore shouldn't deform gameplay.

Ghoul never existed, this never happened!

In this case, the author was Darkgod and his agenda was writing the Lichform spell description.
Re: Lichform... get rid of racial tree in favor of new tree.
I thought we were talking about lore here, as in in-game texts.
But right, it does explicitly state that. So maybe it should say: "To become a Lich and gain eternal freedom from death is the culmination of many a necromancer's studies." And from there like it is now.
Reiterating: I don't think it should be a no-brainer - although currently a small buff wouldn't hurt, now that there's more competion to class points. But the descriptive text should follow the talent, not the other way around.

Even though the descriptory lore snippet you get upon entering implies that there is no escape until you complete your quest within the catacombsHousePet wrote:The door isn't locked.0player wrote: I kindly remind you that she is locked in a crypt for several weeks, presumably without any food, and already sustaining herself with something like Blurred Mortality, as the lore suggests.

The door disappears at a certain point.
It might not be "locked", but you sure as hell ain't gettin' through it
