This character got killed in the ambush.

Behind the death pop-up you could see the normal message of how the staff was gone etc. and from the log you see shield forming so I'm guessing this death shouldn't have happened.

maybe because u were below 0 hp with heroism infusion? shield wont help if below 1 hp when the time for heroism runs out
just a thought, there should be mechanics to prevent this though

Heroism resets you to 1 hp when its duration expires. Heroism is a very safe condition to have.
EDIT: oh wow, look at the damage left on your damage shield.
Clearly some numbers are going below zero and wrapping around.
You probably died to a math bug.

Same thing happened to me on my Berserker. I took a swing from the boss that 'killed' me, triggering the quest popup etc, then got hit by an arrow from an archer that actually killed me.

Yeah, I can't see that it does that anymore in 1.0.5. Maybe I was mistaken, or maybe it got changed?
